Got a chance to see the former in a theater this past week, and I'm in awe. Both absolutely stellar.
Which one do you guys prefer?

I agree both are great, but The Last Temptation of Christ is on another level.

The fact that Martin Scorsese looked at Willem Dafoe and thought, "Yeah, that strung-out looking motherfucker could play our Lord and Savior" and it worked puts The Last Temptation of Christ comfortably ahead.

Really, really love both but The Last Temptation of Christ is one of the most spiritually reinvigorating movies I've ever seen and Peter Gabriel's music is heaven.

They're both rough around the edges but with the older film that seems like a stylistic choice, and lends the film such edge, energy, and style, with the newer one it just seems like the ineptitude that comes with a movie rushed for release. A ginger Judas from Brooklyn cannot detract from a movie the way heinous continuity, stupid writing, and crippling narration do.

Wanted to post this somewhere, it's Paul Schrader (who wrote Last Tempation of Christ don't forget) in a recent interview sorta bashing Silence :

Not a huge fan of either, but I used to like Silence a lot and I never cared much for Last Temptation so my vote's for Silence.
Last Temptation is honestly so campy. Don't see how ppl can take it that seriously...

Just had a random thought... Dafoe probably would have been a much better Ferreira than Neeson.
