He should remake What About Bob? with Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix.

A serious fantasy movie for kids that treats its audience with respect.

A noir with a twist or just a thriller about relationships.

I loved Phantom Thread but I didn't think it was a romantic film, I thought it was a dark anti-romance about an eventual co-dependent madness really.
I'd like to see him do a true neo-noir - he has problems with ending films sometimes and with noir you can't muck with it much or overwrite it. I liked some of Inherent Vice but I was thinking something less self aware.

What I personally wanna see him do is finish out his "addiction" trilogy and adapt Cormac McCarthy's Suttree and cast Joaquin Phoenix as the title character, with the kid from Mud (not Tye Sheridan, the other one) as Gene Harrogate.

I`d love to see him do a really cerebral Sci fi, something like Annihilation or 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Ever since he talked about making a movie with his daughter, I've been in love with the idea of him making a family film. Not only has he always been exceptional at emotional payoffs but his wide variety of taste in film could provide him a deep well of inspiration for how to pull one off.
Aside from that, I also like the idea of him doing a psychological horror. I'd also be interested in seeing him get out of his period mode and make something contemporary.

An adaptation of Pynchon's "V".
Or anything he feels like, really. He's more than proven himself as an excellent director at this point so I trust him to handle basically any subject matter that he thinks he can pull off.

I mean, he pretty much captured the spirit of that novel perfectly with The Master. He'd be an excellent fit for it, but I don't want him to be known as "the Pynchon guy." EDIT: With that said, if he did go back to the Pynchon well, Mason & Dixon or bust.

What I'd like him to do: a horror! His dad was Ghoulardi, I meannn....
What I think he'll do: well he mentioned a project idea that involves "open spaces" - so a Western? Or...he's teased doing something with Tiffany Haddish, so that could be a goofy comedy, team her with Maya Rudolph or something.

I've long said a PTA horror movie would be some freaky shit.
Or he could do something really earnest like a kid's movie (like he's talked about) or a full blown romance movie.

I really want him to do a straight up gangster epic. Force DDL out of retirement at gunpoint if he has to.

not genre necessarily, but he MUST direct ddl to play an actually nice human being (and not the "you're not an asshole, you're just trying so hard to be" case of phantom thread) before he finally retires (cmon he's not just retiring like that). emphasis on each word of "nice human being".

You're saying that PTA should direct the upcoming Mr. Rogers biopic, fire Tom Hanks, and cast DDL?
