Collateral is the man's magnum opus. Thief and The Insider are close, though.

Heat I think is the one that most defines him - I mean the depth of that writing is almost ridiculous down the cast list and no one else would have made that - it's maybe the most audacious crime film ever in many ways - if you look at film's that inspired it or that copy it, Heat runs circles around them at the screenplay/character level - heck it's maybe even overwritten in parts, lol.......in some ways The Insider is a more impressive film because the amount of facts that film conveys to you in the first 45 minutes is amazing and easy to follow and involving.......but still ......Heat.

I also love Collateral and The Insider is great as well, but Heat is so superior I choose it as the only one here.
