An actress who I think gets better with age. She's incredibly smart when it comes to picking roles for herself.
Now, you can choose up to 5 of your favorite roles. The poll will be up until May 31th

Far and away, the best thing she's ever done is Cold Mountain. I'm sure that with more screentime, she probably would've found some way to ruin that as well, but in five minutes she managed to create a harrowing portrait of a woman who loses everything she has ever valued and becomes a shattered shell of a human being. Everything else she's ever done has had some modicum of falseness to it. She is perhaps the most unconvincing actress I've ever seen at actually making me believe she is inhabiting a role. Even in something like Jackie, where she is physically suited to the role and has a pretty solid (if overly convoluted) script backing her, her vocal inflections sound like a put-on rather than feeling remotely naturalistic. It's like watching a TV craftsman holding up these specialized, carefully delicate tools built specifically for a certain job and then using them to bludgeon a square peg into a round hole. She is, essentially, the Tim Taylor of actresses.
So yeah, Cold Mountain's the only thing I think she's ever done that even approaches greatness.

I'm not a fan of Natalie Portman...yet, I'm a fan of Natalie Portman. I'm not a fan because she has too many performances where I think she's totally unconvincing or false, even in movies I like that it truly makes me question her abilities as an actress, yet, she has 3-4 performances that are absolutely stunning. There are many inconsistent actors but in Portman's case, the gap between the good and the bad is so huge, it's mind-blowing.
Leon is (arguably) not her truly best but that's what she is and will ever be for me. A star-making performance if ever there was one and perhaps one of the most iconic female performances of the 90's and one that's still very relevant in today culture, you rarely see characters having posters, phones cases, clothes...girls still adopting her looks in 2018, the way you can see it with Portman in Leon.

Jackie is her masterpiece. She was perfect in it, inflicting both glamour and weakness into the role. Black Swan is a close #2, but some of her credit goes to the editing. Annihilation, Leon and Closer close the top 5 with very different, yet equally good performances.

She can't act, but she is suprisingly tolerable in Cold Mountain.

Jackie Annihilation and Knight of Cups, in which she was quite good and the MVP of a load of crap.

Easily Garden State followed by Jackie. Haven't been hugely impressed with the rest of her work. I suppose Closer would be my next vote, because I think she elevates the shitty dialogue and story more than it hampers her.

Her performance in Jackie is the best female performance of the decade so far, so I'll go with that.
