Which of these performances from the film do you prefer?
While I like Keitel's robust intensity, I'm picking Neill. There is a world of sadness behind his eyes that's hard to describe - he's profoundly lonely, but unable to connect to others in any meaningful way. Neill layers these qualities atop the character's boiling sexual frustration to tragic effects. Though Neill's character does despicable things, it's impossible to hate him - you just feel sadness for him.

Sam Neill for me as well. One of the best portrayals of jealousy and despair.
