Saw it when it came out in theaters and basically only remember Jude Law’s performance and maybe 2 deaths. It was otherwise a decent, often tense thriller.

Like most of Soderbergh's film stuff it's good not great - it was some great moments though, and is made in an exemplary manner but no one really loves it much........... but again it is good, well-made.

It's quite good, one of Soderbergh's better movies . . . but it really should've gotten the miniseries treatment. It was begging for a ten-part HBO installment.

Despite showing promise at the beginning of the movie, it slowly drifts into forgettable territory.

Very good, very Soderbergh. But I can't have been the only one who wanted a bleaker ending. And some of the individual stories were pretty weak (Cotillard's for example).

I don't like it. In fact I rather dislike it, and when watching it I recall being quite irritated by it. I'm generally not a Soderbergh fan, and a career riddled with drab and lifeless looking affairs such as this are the reason why,

I love it. Great ensemble cast (Jude Law and Jennifer Ehle deserved nominations), very realistic portrayal of what the world would probably look like if it faced a widespread epidemic. Visually it's gorgeous, and the score is exceptional as well. One of my favorite Soderberghs.

Anyone rewatch it now since it is beyond relevant?

Surprised I never commented on this (maybe it got buried), but it's one of my favorites and has been since 2011. Great ensemble, too.

Oh honey, it's a shame they didn't cast Nicole in Gwyneth's role...

It's one of Soderbergh's better films. Maybe top 3 along with Traffic and Erin Brockovich for me. It's actually a very good and unusual, cause in comparison intelligent take on a virus and how different people might react. Some of the story segments feel a bit half-baked, but that's often the case with that type of films.

Funny story about this film actually. When me and the fam watched Contagion for the first time, the scene where they draw out the first birthday date to get the vaccine or whatever was actually the same date that we were watching it on.

Yes, I am on of the thousands who helped this movie get "re-discovered" in these Corona-times by finally watching it.
It's the kind of movie that "ends" right after the moment it's runtime ends if you get what I mean; which is weird since the topic is specially intense and relevant...Law was the mvp but nothing has left a lasting impression on me save for the final shot.

Honestly, I think the miniseries treatment should be coming sooner rather than later at this point. With its newfound popularity and relevance, it seems inevitable. After all, everything from Parasite to The Last of Us is getting an HBO adaptation these days, why not this?

cut Jude Law and beef up the Cotillard role and it'd be near-flawless.

From a narrative and character perspective, it's very underdeveloped and unremarkable (agreed that it should be expanded into a miniseries). However, it's also scarily smart in light of current events, and that ending is fucking terrifying.

It’s scary just how many emotions I’m feeling are compacted into one video.

Having watched it again last night for the first time in like 8 years, some fresh thoughts:
1) Soderbergh's chilly, elliptical style works perfectly with the story, even if the screenplay itself suffers from miscalculations. 2) The film takes too far a jump at about the midway point when all the looting and ransacking occurs. I think screenplay could've spent more time exploring that ramp up. 3) Marion Cotillard's storyline could've easily been dropped. She's really given next to nothing to do and her vignette doesn't really interconnect with the others. 4) Scenes like the muggers ransacking Lathan's house and the reporter showing up at Jude Law's apartment don't really ring true, and feel like contrived attempts to delineate the pandemic's micro-impact on tertiary characters. 5) The daughter is unfortunately just annoying to look at.
It's impossible not to view this film through a different lens given the current crisis. I think I liked it better this time around, but it's far from perfect.

From what I recall: Meh. It has a lot of potential but none of the storylines are fully developed while trying to cover a lot of ground, and actually it ask for a lot of suspension of disbelief, especially when the virus peaks, no economy, no breakdowns, etc...., some plots are dull ( Damon, Cotillard ) and others deserved its own movie ( Winslet ). I thik the mini-serie would've been a much better option
