Yeah...Plummer might be Canada's greatest ever actor. Admittedly, Canada has never historically had an acting field as deep as the US or UK, but it's still an impressive distinction nontheless.
Landau was a talented and interesting character actor, but Plummer easy for me.

Landau has the higher highs with Ed Wood and Crimes and Misdemeanors. I think Plummer's best work were for films he wasn't nominated for.

Plummer is awesome and wins this but Landau late in his life got three roles and aced them memorably (Tucker (less so than the other 2 but still), Crimes and Misdemeanors and Ed Wood) and of course the 2 starred in Atom Egoyan's Remember (2015)

Yeah...Plummer might be Canada's greatest ever actor. Which is why I said Plummer might be (he certainly got it all over Sutherland when it comes to stage pedigree, though Sutherland has the greater film peaks. But not for a long while). Not a definitive statement. Donald Sutherland would be an obvious alternative for many, myself included. But if I had to pick, it'd be one of them.

I like Carrey a lot. He's insanely talented (particularly at comedy, which is what he's best at)..
But Sutherland and Plummer are Actor's Actors. It's a significant distinction. Carrey is a brilliant comedian who has done some very good dramatic work, but i don't view him as an Actor's Actor.

Yeah...Plummer might be Canada's greatest ever actor. How dare you besmirch Keanu Reeves like that.

Only considering film, since I hear Plummer's stage work is legendary, Landau.

I'm not that familiar with either of their filmpographies, so I didn't vote, but based on what I do know of them both I choose Landau.
Why? 4 reasons:
1) His performance in Ed Wood 2) He wasn't in The Sound of Music 3) He wasn't dreadful in Dolores Claiborne 4) He deserved his Oscar

2) He wasn't in The Sound of Music Take that back! You sir, are shitting on my childhood But seriously, Plummer is legit iconic as Captain Von Trapp. It's the best "movie star" performance he's ever given. Full of charm and wit. He managed to keep up with Julie Andrews in a musical based on the strength of his performance, even though it was clear he wasn't any great shakes as a singer.

I'm sure that Plummer would agree with Johnny: he hates The Sound of Music. But he is quite good in it and has good chemistry with Andrews.

He's come around to it for quite awhile now. He's often seen doing joint interviews with Julie Andrews on anniversary celebrations for The Sound Of Music, enthusiastically pimping it and recalling old anecdotes about how he used to refer to it as "The Sound Of mucus". Plummer has really embraced it as part of his legacy now.

Plummer has really embraced it as part of his legacy now. Plummer's stopped being so crotchety ever since his awards run in 2011, I've noticed. I'm glad to hear he's embraced the film, even if he did seem to regard the Sound of Music tribute at the Oscars a few years back with some bemusement. On a semi-related note, where do you stand on Amanda Plummer? I'd argue her as being one of the all-time greats who never got her due or a really juicy film role to capitalize on her insane talent. She's my win for Needful Things (and I think anyone who actually watches her in that would have no choice but to nominate her), but I think that she really should've been born a few years later so that she could be a Lars von Trier muse.

I've always thought Amanda Plummer was quirky and interesting (like Juliette Lewis or maybe Bjork. So your Von Trier thing might have a point). But I've never actively sought out her work. Maybe she did need that big juicy film role to demand our attention.

I think Landau gave the best performance out of those two with Ed Wood. But overall I'd slightly lean towards Plummer now.

Hmm... This is tough. I'm a big fan of both but give the edge to Landau. Plummer can really command the screen and has some memorable characters to his name, but I think Landau has a bit more range and can convey so much with just a look.
