This was released earlier this week, but I didn't see it posted. Looks like one of the highlights from this year's Sundance lineup.

Looks cool and Mr. Stanfield is one of my favourite new(ish) actors, so I'm in. Terry Crews is also always a welcome presence. That man has more charisma and screen presence in his little finger, than a lot of more 'talented' actors have in their whole bodies.

We all knew that kid growing up. The kid that saw every single Charlie Kaufman movie twenty times and created his own John Malkovich doll and puppet set while proclaiming that Donald Kaufman is THE. GREATEST. OSCAR NOMINATED. WRITER. EVER.
Unfortunately, that fucking kid got the money to make his very own wet dream movie come to life. Please please please let the world end before he makes another.

After a bit more time to chew on it, my complaint is that all of the weirdness clutters up the movie enormously. If Riley would just calm the fuck down and say what he wants to say, I'd be okay. But all of the sci-fi ridiculousness simultaneously makes the film too preachy (by literalizing Riley's message over and over and over) and clouds what the movie is trying to say, because PENISES ARE SO FUNNY. So Riley creates a hellish limbo for himself that wants to tell you that slavery is bad and you should feel bad and also slavery is a part of current American culture and SLAVERY, while also trying to make points about self-absorbed "artists" that want to change the world but ultimately use the same techniques as those they hate.
Good stuff if you create a balance. But it seems that the director has no sense of what that word even means.
