I'll go with 2012 - great nominees, some surprising inclusions and wonderful omissions (hi, Ben)

Every single year has at least one turd in the punchbowl (Aronofsky/Hooper, Payne/Scorsese, Russell, Russell again, Linklater/Tyldum, McKay, Lonergan, Gerwig), but I guess I'll pick 2015 because of Dr. George, Alejandro and Lenny A. being so awesome. 2017 and 2012 are close also-rans, though.

Though choice between 2012 (Haneke, Lee, Spielberg, DOR in his best moment) and 2017 (PTA finally being nominated again after 10 years, and a BD debut for Gerwig, Del Toro, Nolan and Peele)
