Never even heard of it, but Peter Mullan in a leading role is an automatic must-see. Let me know what you think.

Like Stephen, I've never heard of it. But like Stephen, I'm gonna stump for it anyway because Peter Mullan is one of our very greatest actors.
Robert De Niro in his prime gets all of the praise that should go to Peter Mullan in damn near anything -- that's how good this guy is.

Ok, I watched episode 1 of 4 - the show is interesting at least in its set-up, Mullan (great here) is a crime figure who is dealing with onset of Alzheimer's (or dementia or madness not entirely clear yet), so you have a strange, intermittently successful mix of British crime drama and character study/backstory. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten a direct US remake - you watch this and can literally picture it being done with Bryan Cranston or something.
I'll keep watching, not sure what direction it's going but I think it's safe to say it's staying on Mullan and that's enough.
I just watched Mullan give an entirely different characterization in Ozark where he's well, I don't know how to describe him exactly (see that Ozark thread in TV) but calmly sinister would be as good a way as any to start.
Quite a 1-2 punch of his available on Netflix .....

That's a very tough film to watch but it's beautifully rendered, and specific too in what it shows you - it's one of those punch to the gut British films.

Episode 2 was a tour de force by Mullan - the show is off and on relative to its crime story machinations still but as a character study it verges on the Shakespearean so far......and unlike Ozark he doesn't just punctuate the action from time to time in memorable support but consistently in the lead.
2 episodes to go......

7/10 overall - really hurt by inconsistencies in the crime story line (where are all his men? how is he so feared without a bigger crew?) and totally saved by Mullan's gut-wrenching and by turns ferocious, funny, terrifying, and achingly sad performance.
About as highly recommended as I can for a 7/10 because you aren't going to see a performance like this in movie theaters in March......
On Netflix.
