Sally Hawkins falling in love with a fish > Emma Stone falling in love with a plank of wood.

La La Land is a total blast but Shape isn't boring either.

Boring isn't the right word. Mediocre is more like it.

La La Land is just poor, and actually quite dull.

I wouldn't call either one boring, but Shape of Water is shockingly sloppy and a lot less engaging than La La Land, so that.

Sally Hawkins falling in love with a fish > Emma Stone falling in love with a plank of wood. I liked LLL for the music and visual spectacle, but I'll admit that's funny.

La La Land. Really loses steam in the middle when it becomes a standard story of whiny young love.
I guess, to be fair, The Shape of Water loses steam in the middle as well, but comes back from it in a big way.

La La Land. The plot and narrative are very boring. It's all very nice to look at and some good music, but it's all flash. Gosling isn't that interesting to watch and Stone is very good, but it's not really anything special from either of them, apart from the fact they sing and dance. Oh joy.
The Shape of Water also has a pretty thin premise, but the setting and cast are at least entertaining to watch. LLL just has Stone and Gosling and I can't even think of another named person from that movie, character or actor.

John Legend was there to let everyone know Jazz was about the future. there are also Dewitt, Simmon, and Fitrock... Are those the names of Emma Stone's dresses, because I genuinely don't recall those names. I didn't even remember John Legend being in the film until someone mentioned it

How about an option for "neither"?

Hey, hey! Simmons... um... snaps his fingers a couple of times, yeah! He was really memorable! Yep, also Emma's girl friends and People who dance in the opening! how can anyone don't remember them! Of course I recall there generally being highway dancers and the women in her apartment in the beginning, but did any of them even have names? I doubt I could pick a single one out of a lineup. I recall one woman in her apartment being brownish...a brownish area with points? That's all.
