Two actresses lauded for their chameleon versatility and technical precision - any accent, any nationality, any role, period. If there is an heir apparent for Streep, it's Blanchett, yes? Who do you generally prefer as an actor? Do you think that Blanchett's best performances can stand toe-to-toe with Streep's?

Streep.
Blanchett's not even the best actresss from her own generation in her own country (Nicole Kidman). Which would be a fairer comparison to Blanchett, even though she still loses.
Blanchett is more similar to Streep than Kidman is, but I don't neccesarily think that's a good thing.
One of the acting events of 2019 will be watching Kidman go up against Streep in Season 2 of Big Little Lies (as they shared no screen time in The Hours).

Streep, but they're two of the best actresses of all time.

Early Streep is comparable to Blanchett, but now Blanchett all the way. Streep simply has had way too many misfires over the past 15 years or so. All her nominations since Prada are some of the worst of the 21st century.

Streep, easily. Blanchett is basically Streep with even hammier tendencies and less technical gifts.

This of course is basically like Denzel compared to Pacino or DeNiro or Nicholson or that more recent poll- he is greatish but he's a top ~15 American film actor atm....they are top 5 American - there are levels to this stuff - not everyone gets a prize.
I already have listed all over this board how Pacino specifically beats 'Zel like a drum in almost every actor metric and people threw hissy fits about it but I'm not doing it to diss him or making those metrics up and they really do matter too.......of course people can like who they like - we all have favorites and preferences - that's totally cool.
BUT just as there is no factual way to argue Denzel over the very greatest of the great - you have to live in the real world - same with Blanchett here. There are some factual claims you can really make - it's not all merely opinion or preference or feeling - and there's just no way to argue Blanchett "over" Streep either......as great as she is and she is really great the best I can say is she's in that general class .......that's huge praise.

Both are very overpraised but Streep's reputation is slightly more warranted.
Not to shit on Blanchett in two consecutive posts, but I'm still waiting to be dazzled by her in "Mrs. America" (I finished ep 3). It feels like her earlier Katharine Hepburn but on the other side of the political aisle.
