Um, it's hilarious and sad - this ridiculous film - and I think it would be the worst BP winner in a long time (seriously, maybe ever) is the subject of an article that includes the term "Pulitzer Prize winning playwrite" and has the director of the film saying "I never saw the play" thereby you can deduce that it is totally his own sh*tty idea for a film......so we know exactly where the credit/blame lies now.
Meanwhile the most audacious, original, timely (and far and away the best) film of the year - the film that screams this is what the world looks like now - no one doubts was entirely Martin McDonagh's own, which likely will lose BP AND best screenplay.
Well go figure.........

Jeunet is definitely stretching it with that claim. The two scenes couldn't even be close enough to each other outside of involving dancing. I mean I don't remember there being bouncing in The Shape of Water.
Also originality is overrated.

I think I pointed oiut before somewhere on the site, if there's something about this film that doesn't have uniqueness to it is the story, is an ancient one, it's been told over and over again but I wouldn't say that copying, del Toro's responses have been on point about his formative sources, in this particular case it might be so universal or simple that of course many different works from the past will be reflected in this film.
PS. That Jeunet accusation is down right dumb. In a way all of them are just because he's about to win and everybody wants a piece of it. Next story will be that Hitchcock's ghost is suing PTA for copying Rebecca.

It might be plagiarized but at least it isn't racist.

Now that Oscar season has past and The Shape of Water also became BP, I wonder if that playwright estate will still attempt to pull a fight? Don't expect much good to come out of that case in his their favor...
