I finally saw it and I loved it. It doesn't quite match the epic perfection of Andrei Rublev for me, but it's still an incredible piece of filmmaking.
So, opinions on it? Interpretations? I'd love to hear some insight on the ending and the significance of the black dog.

I think Tarkovsky made his best and most personal film with his last (The Sacrifice) which fused all of his themes into an overwhelming vision. But all his films have a great and unique pull to them and Stalker is a great piece of philosophy and bravura movie making and even if I don't understand all of it that somehow makes it all the better anyway.
There are films that are convoluted and there are other films that are impenetrable instead - Stalker to me is the latter and sometimes I find it tremendously sad and sometimes, tremendously hopeful.

This is the ideal way to approach and make a science-fiction movie. This is a spiritual experience.
