In an L.A. Production in June.I'm very intrigued by this. Hanks doesn't fit the usual physical build for Falstaff, but I am game to see what he's got in store.

I think that he'd make a great Falstaff, actually. It's a very silly, charismatic role, and he would KILL IT. Only Falstaff I've seen on stage is Stacy Keach... and I literally thought he fell asleep on stage at a couple of points. He never missed his cues, so I guess not. GOD, it was the most boring performance I've ever seen in a play though. It was the most "I don't give a shit" performance I've ever seen.

I love the guy, but I did not hear good things about that. Simon Russell Beale's Falstaff remains definitive for me.

Not at all familiar with the character, but Jim Broadbent looks physically perfect for the role.

My favorite Shakespearean character!
A younger Goodman would have been an absolutely wonderful fit (since they're going American here, I'm proposing an American).

One bad performance shouldn't be held against a guy that is usually solid. I truly love the idea of Hanks performing this role, though. This was a character so popular that Shakespeare even wrote a spin-off to cash in on him, and Hanks can bring the laughs. I've never seen him do Shakespeare, but it's not like he'll be speaking another language. Anyone can do Shakespeare if they put their minds to it and communicate with the audience.

His Dr. Henry Goose in Cloud Atlas is very reminiscent of an evil, debauched Falstaff.

Good move. Could be good. I could see Hanks working as Falstaff really well.
