The 1982 miniseries Shōgun, starring Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune. It's widely considered to be one of the finest miniseries ever produced, and is one of the highest-rated series, ever. Of course a multitude of Emmys followed. Interestingly, it also features narration by Orson Welles.
