I haven't seen much but I kind of loved Happy End - currently in my top 5. Don't get the hate some have for it......

Icelandic film Heartstone was my favorite of 2017, followed by The Square.
Will watch Loveless and A Fantastic Woman as soon as possible. Am hopefully going to see On Body and Soul next weekend.

BPM should have been nominated !!!!! I guess now I'm rooting for THE SQUARE.

oh and while we're on the topic, anyone else really surprised they snubbed Foxtrot? I thought that was one of the frontrunners...

Yup that was a surprise, it looks like either On Body and Soul or The Insult took its place. I'm surprised In the Fade wasn't nominated either although it hasn't received the best reviews.

I keep saying that 2017 wasn't the strongest year for foreign films, many have incredibly ambitious premises but fell short or peaked to early. From the list I'm looking forward to Foxtrot and On Body and Soul, the trailer for the first one kept me intrigued, says a lot in just one scene.
So far, 120 Beats per Minute takes my vote, from the first time I saw it I knew it was special, there were certain aspects that intrigued me and made me think about it a lot, by the second time the whole film came with an unstoppable force, the editing is incredible and I can think of at least 3 scenes that would be among the best of the year, especially the last one, no film ended on such a high note.

I only saw First They Killed My Father and Loveless from that list. I liked them both.

BPM is great, but The Square and On Body and Soul are my favorites of the list so far. I'm seeing Loveless this week hopefully.
