If I ever decide to attempt to write an analysis of a movie this would be the one. It's a multilayered masterpiece, and it changed the way I view cinema. 10/10.

Very good film and unique in that it's about a mood or a feeling and does it without letting up it just continues toward the inevitable - the boredom becomes fraught with tension slowly so that the style enhances and becomes the mood - very rare for American films.
When you start to look at Van Sant's total career he's a real shapeshifter who has balanced films like this and much bigger commercial projects pretty seamlessly.

It conserves the time of floating in the sweet dream of abundance and the end of history perfectly.

I'll add nothing of value to the conversation at hand here, other than to say that this is a film which I have never seen and every time it comes up I think 'Oh, I must finally watch that', then proceed to forget about it again. So here I go again, making myself another promise to watch this film. What does the future hold.

I've seen the first few minutes twice now. Both times, my DVD from the library started skipping and I couldn't finish. I really like what I've seen.
