"Hot off directing back to back pictures in the Oscar contender The Post and the upcoming Ready Player One, Steven Spielberg is now figuring out his next two directorial vehicles. There are several percolating, but sources say he is eyeing Indiana Jones, and then would either precede or follow quickly with another pic. I’m hearing that one might be his dream project, a new version of West Side Story. Spielberg’s camp had no comment on his plans. Deadline revealed back in 2015 that Spielberg had his eye on his Jurassic World star Chris Pratt to be a central part of the franchise relaunch, alongside Harrison Ford. Not sure if that is set in stone, but the prospect of Spielberg relaunching the franchise he hatched with pal George Lucas makes Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm seem even more brilliant in hindsight. That franchise moved from Paramount and came with all the Star Wars stuff. David Koepp wrote the Indy script. Disney dated it for 2020. I thought Indiana Jones was already confirmed for a 2019 release.
Didn't know about West Side Story, though. That makes it 879 potential projects that Spielberg's attached himself to at this point.

Jesus , you Hollywood ! Please leave your classics alone ! And the last Indianna Jones sucked major donkey balls so needless to say I'm definitely not optimistic about that "new" film.

Not really news, all this has been known for quite some time. Weird article which doesn't say anything new and doesn't confirm his plans ('Spielberg’s camp had no comment on his plans'). What I wonder is whether he'll be able to find the right kid for "Edgardo Mortara". I sure hope he will.

Mehhhh. Should do Edgardo Mortara.
Also - he mentioned last month that his epic Montezuma/Cortez pic was being done for Amazon.

Well, if he does remake it he better get some dancers and have the great choreography. That's the only reason I watch the old West Side Story. I was never that into the story. I love the dancing.

The idea of John Williams adapting Bernstein sounds so good.

That sounds quite terrible. I never liked West Side Story and think not even Spielberg could made a good movie out of this stuff.
I also hoped he would not follow his plans of Indy 5 anymore. He has some much, much more intriguing projects on the horizon. Especially "Edgardo Mortara", for which I'm waiting eagerly.

Spielberg has been on a bit of a roll lately but these sound like his next two stinkers.

They couldn't get a right actor for the lead role or something.

Very unhappy Edgardo Mortara is essentially dead. Sounded like it had the potential to be one of Spielberg's best this century.
I'm kinda looking forward to Indy 5 in hopes of them giving Ford and the character a proper sendoff, but I can't imagine it'll recapture the same magic as the original trilogy or anything.

I gotta confess Edgardo Mortara looked like another vanilla prestige picture, and that sounded really boring. It's What I Do would probably be it too, but it'd have a female lead.

Indiana Jones with Chris Pratt? Sign me up!
I'm not sure I want to see a West Side Story remake. But, I trust him to do a good job.
