Nicole Kidman is moving closer and closer to female GOAT territory for me, and I haven't even seen her highly acclaimed turn in The Northman yet.
But I have seen her other performance out this week in the anthology series ROAR. The episode is titled The Woman Who Eats Photographs, and Kidman plays a woman (with a husband and kids) who has to take her mother (played by another Aussie acting legend Judy Davis) who is slowly losing her memory to dementia. It's a beautiful little story, very authentically set in Australia, allowing Kidman and Davis to perform in their natural accents.
The chemistry between Kidman and Davis is genuinely special. I never knew that they would gel this well together as actors, but if they want to go on and act in a bunch of other TV shows or movies together, sign me up because they make a wonderful pairing and are completely believable as a mother and daughter with a strained, complicated relationship, where the love between them is also very evident. Performance wise, the episode belongs more to Kidman, as she is the lead character and makes her extra screen time count, but Davis puts in a terrific performance as well.
I said in another thread that Kidman simply doesn't miss anymore. Her range is insane and she just keeps on delivering new and exciting work, despite being insanely prolific. Below...a great scene between Davis and Kidman:

Chloe Fineman does a pretty great Kidman - not sure SNL is worth watching these days just for her impressions, but......she's awesome anyway

Uh..oh....the usual suspects trying to turn unsubtly turn this thread back into a misogynist "let's make fun of Kidman trashheap" again!!! Bring on the impressionists!!!! Yeaaaahhh! You guys were doing so well . But you can only hold it in for so long, eh.And the thread was actually decent and respectful and insightful to one of our greatest actresses for a few pages. Let's not go all the way back to clown territory guys As an aside, Chloe Fineman is a Scientologist. Ever since finding that out, her choice to have Kidman as arguably her main imitation has taken on a slightly sinister connotation for me (Kidman is regarded as a "Suppressive Person" within Scientology because of her divorce from Tom Cruise and the "church" estranging her from her adopted children ). Without the Scientology link, Fineman's impressions of Kidman could be written off as mildy amusing and harmless, but that "Church" has caused enormous harm to Kidman's life, so it's pretty nasty for Scientology to use one of their members to parody Kidman. It's not an accident, imho, and probably why Kidman has never acknowledged Fineman to my knowledge.

pupdurcs - I totally understand feeling defensive over your favorites, but I honestly feel that in this instance, it’s all in good fun. That’s certainly how I meant my post above to be, at any rate. I don't actually blame you @tyler . You just unwittingly fell into a trap set up by others, who weren't doing it for "fun". The people primarily responsible for turning this thread into an utter, utter shithole are Ms Moviestar and Pacinoyes, and it was done for completely malicious and vindictive reasons . Ms Moviestar does that cutesy bullshit where he (because I think this poster, despite their "character" is probably actually male) insults and degrades Kidman at every opportunity, often in misogynistic terms. And because it's done in his lightweight failed actress "character" or whatever, people mostly take it as being amusing or harmless , when it's really a quite nasty and long running hate campaign against this woman that he's been engaged in for nearly 2 decades now since the IMDB days. I don't find his schitck harmless or amusing in the least. Pacinoyes just hates my guts (mainly because of our Denzel wars over the years ) so made it a point to strategically ally himself with Ms Moviestar when he realised Kidman was my favorite actress (and he was getting diminishing returns attacking Denzel), to turn discussion about her on this board (and her "official" thread) into a referendum about her fans and celebrity status, as opposed to seriously discussing or celebrating her work as one of our greatest living actresses. Like I said, I don't blame you. It's easy to go along with the flow when people set things up in a certain way. I know the people who were proactively doing this in a deliberate and spiteful manner, to encourage others to just go along with it like it's normal. For reference's sake!

^ Oh honey, what absolute horseshit! Like I created and produced the Nicole Flannel video? I'm also accused of being a misogynist whose favorite actresses are Anna Magnani, Gena Rowlands, Blannie, etc, and now I'm also a man (clearly needed to accuse me of misogyny). Whatever. Anyway my reply was to Pacinoyes so go fuck yourself... and take your insane ultra-defensive Kidman stanning elsewhere. I also suggest if the Flannel video offends you take it up with the creators.

I've thought you were (probably) a man, possibly a Xenu/Scieno shill , and definitely a misogynist for over 15 years now going back to IMDB when you were on the boards doing the same anti-Kidman schitck, so nothing new.... honey! If you are just a spiteful woman with a genuine vagina, my apologies (internalised misogyny is a thing btw, so you dont need to be a man to be a misogynist. Plenty of women are internalised misogynists ).I don't give a flying fuck who your favorite actresses are. Your camp drag queen gimmick was tedious to me in the noughties and I have no interest in people who hide behind fake gimmick personalities. I'll stan who I want when I want. Just like you 've made a damn near 20 year whole online career out of attacking Kidman....it takes one to know one .If you want to dish it out, better get used to taking the heat!

Yeah both those videos were just funny - if you love her or hate her anyone can enjoy those. Chloe Fineman is a Kate McKinnon in the making tbh - some of her impressions are pretty left field on target - also does a great Julianne Moore, Drew Barrymore, Laura Dern and Jennifer Coolidge - I mean she does a lot of good ones and unique ones....... Then again so did Jay Pharoah and SNL fired him so.......

Oh honey, I'm calm. I was replying to Pacinoyes, before the poopscoop person or turd face or whatever showed up and started up with their shit.
You know me, I never cause any trouble and am nice as pie. Everybody loves me.

One of the greatest actresses of all time, Oscar and Emmy winning actress Nicole Kidman, will now recieve her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in April 2024 (postponed from 2023 due to the SAG/WGA strikes). The highest honour that can be bestowed by the American Film Industry. Kidman is only the 3rd non-American actor to recieve this award and the first and only Australian actor to be so honored.

Kidman's career is ridiculous. In a positive way, from her perspective. I'm not sure I've seen an actress active for as long as her, essentially be able to do anything they want within the industry like she is doing. And have the work ethic to follow it through. I I once thought Meryl Streep had a stranglehold on the industry for actresses her age when she was in her 50's, but Kidman is taking it to another level. A lot of actresses in her age range must truly hate her, because she gobbles up everything, especially in the TV and streaming space.

It would be interesting if she could get a film with the acclaim and success of BLL. If I had to note one possible criticism of her career, it's that she seems to not have even one movie that has acclaim but also penetrated popular culture to a wide extent - a Boogie Nights, a LOTR, a Titanic, Gladiator, etc. I could have pictured her doing well in Vera Farmiga's role in The Departed. Her TV work has been strong for the most part, but I feel like she's overdoing it. It shouldn't be too late to work with a Spielberg, Nolan, Mendes, Gerwig, or whoever. The minor auteur stuff is starting to blend together.

The minor auteur stuff is starting to blend together. Moulin Rouge pentrated popular culture pretty significantly. Much more I'd argue than Boogie Nights. It changed the game for modern musicals. It's frequently named one of the greatest movie musicals of all time, and the Broadway stage adaptation won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2021. That movie has a pop cultural presence and shelf life far beyond Boogie Nights. Kidman's Satine is one of the most iconic female movie characters going. Why on earth would she want to play Vera Farminga's supporting role in The Departed in a movie where 5 or 6 men have better roles than her? Just to say she was in a Scorsese film or worked with Leo? A film like Moulin Rouge does far more for her standing in film history than appearing in that role in The Departed would. Paddington also seems to be a pretty big thing popular culture wise as well, and it was a big critical and commercial success. I don't think Kidman's career, on film or TV/streaming would be sustainable if she didn't have iconic films that had penetrated popular culture.

I'd say Moulin Rouge easily left a bigger footprint among casuals. Even Eyes Wide Shut should eclipse Boogie Nights as the last statement by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time who is far better known than PTA.
And a minor role as love interest in a Scorsese film would barely be remembered today among the many better roles she had.

Is Kidman movies holding the kinda weight they used to? Maybe not. From like '90-'05.
But pretty much anything she did from '90-'05 is more well known than Boogie Nights. Boogie Nights might be known more for sex, but then so is Eyes Wide Shut if not more so. And Dead Calm. And Malice. And Billy Bathgate. Are some of those significant anymore??? Maybe not. But I think more people have seen Dead Calm and Eyes Wide Shut than Boogie Nights. And Days of Thunder. And Far and Away. And The Others. And Moulin Rouge. And Practical Magic. All big movies/cable fare/TV guide channel movie recs kinda stuff when they were released.
And I will say that maybe her film work is starting to get overshadowed by Moore and Blanchett. But her TV stuff might makes up for it. And I think in general TV has a larger audience than movies, just because TV has been better since '08, and it's easier to be devoted to. But I think she needs another hit at the level of Big Little Lies. But keep stabbing... and you'll hit on one is my belief.

Blanchett is gonna win it this year finally - I am pretty sure........... but even if she doesn't Blanchett has Tar ffs and has been in 3 BP nominess in recent years - I think she has been in more BP nominees than any actress ever? We have a thread somewhere about it.......either way Blanchett is still out front for Oscar nods and wins ........and Winslet has more Oscar nods, Emmy nods and Emmy wins......... * The Paperboy (plays a slut, pees on Efron), Bll1 (hard sex against a wall), Destroyer (sloppy handjob), Killing of A Sacred Deer (better handjob!), etc were also about sex btw........I posted a .gif of (a clothed!) Kidman going all Remy Lacroix aganst a wall and the mods took that shit down immediately because fuck if I know ............ none of us can apparently enjoy seeing Nic having sex on film ............but I say this almost daily: Nicole Kidman likes sex on camera more than I like posting shit about Nicole Kidman having sex on camera.........God Bless Her tbh: also, upcoming: Nicole Kidman to Star in Intern-Boinking Movie
Next on the roster for a fine young man is Nicole Kidman, starring in A24’s Babygirl.

I'm no Kidman fan, pacinoyes!! Don't group me with the pair of crazy Denzel stans. If you made a list of 10 names including the Maggie Smiths and the Helen Mirrens and Tilda Swintons, Kidman would be at the bottom of the pile. She's never popped a boner either. BLL is entertaining. it's not Homeland, The Last of Us, or Lost.... all time favorite shows of mine. But it's good sister bitch drama. I'd rank Blanchett > Kidman > Winslet. All 3 are lightweights compared to Swinton, Smith, Mirren, and some others I'm not thinking of right now. Kidman has more pop culture appeal than Blanchett, but Blanchett at her best can be really good. My favorite performances from her are in 2000... during her pop culture era (The Gift + The Man Who Cried). Still gotta see Tar... I know I'm late, but!!!! one of these days. But I think Kidman is better than Winslet. Main reason is Winslet's most relevant pop culture movie Titanic she was not very good in. Tho Im with you that since Rabbit Hole, Kidman in film is about as interesting as Robert DeNiro after Heat. I'm in the minority, but I don't salivate over Eyes Wide Shut and Eternal Sunshine. One is good porn but that's about it. And the other feels dated in early 00s irrelevancy. Also, you missed that her latest porject is about OnlyFans. Any more hints that she just might be a huge sex freak?
