So, I re-watched this movie on Blu-Ray for the first time since its release at home while high and oh man what an experience. I even loved it more than the first time. The cast was absolutely brilliant, the writing sharp and the direction flawless. But I'm still shocked how Keaton lost to Redmayne. What a bad bad joke.
Nominations: - Best Picture - Best Direction - Best Leading Actor: Michael Keaton - Best Supporting Actor: Edward Norton - Best Supporting Actress: Emma Stone - Best Supporting Actress: Naomi Watts - Best Supporting Actress: Lindsay Duncan - Best Writing, Original Screenplay - Best Cinematography - Best Sound Editing - Best Sound Mixing - Best Editing - Best Production Design

I really need to rewatch it because the more I think about it the more I believe I rated it too high back then.

Great film and actually a shock winner if you look at how quirky and "non-baity" that film is on paper. I think it signaled a change in the Academy. It functions on a lot of levels all at once and is extremely meta (commentary on acting, family, theater, Hollywood, Art vs. Life, youth and aging, etc.)
I'd have picked Carell that year for BA but he wasn't gonna win either.........I don't think Keaton ever really had a shot as much as we think (they never give BA to an older actor they've never nominated before and Keaton was passed 60) but then the film winning the big prize made it look odd.....but I always thought Redmayne won that by more than we might think.

Best winner of the decade. Hell, there are days I'd even rate it over No Country as the best winner of the millennium.

Not masterpiece level for me, but I do love it. It's easily my favorite Best Picture winner of the decade.

My favorite film of 2014. It's so good, and Keaton's performance is truly fantastic, along with the rest of the cast. So far it's my favorite best picture winner of the decade.

I liked it but never really got the hype. It's on the lower end of BP winners from this century for me.

I've seen it three times... I still don't know if I like it or not.
I do love Keaton, though. At least that has my support.

I enjoyed it overall. One of the best of the 2014 films. Great performance, dialogue, directing, cinematography, use of satires about the entertainment biz, and philosophical messages. I thought Keaton especially had a solid performance from the cast.

it's been a couple years since I watched it. Really should check it out again sometime. I just remember loving the snappy dialogue and the brilliant work from Keaton and Norton.
My nominations: Director Lead Actor - Michael Keaton Supporting Actor - Edward Norton Supporting Actress - Emma Stone Original Screenplay Cinematography Sound Mixing Ensemble Cast
8 noms / 4 wins
Annnd it's my #6 of the year so it barely misses a BP nom.

not a fan
aimless hollywood masturbation posing as arthouse which rarely tries to say anything interesting, and fumbles when it tries to say anything. looks good and has a couple of funny lines.

I need to rewatch this along with Boyhood. I loved it; thought it was a clever, energetic film about show business and the difficulties that comes in the way of making great art. I'm very pleased with its Best Picture win even though it's not my favourite film of the year or even among the nominees (thought Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel were better).
