The Shape of Water - N/S Blow Out - 10/10 - an all time great film imo - DePalma's peak The Imposter - 8/10 - leaves a lot of wtf questions but a great watch Mr. Brooks - 6/10 - has its moments, but becomes ludicrous To Live and Die in L.A - 7.5/10 one of Friedkin's best and I'm not a fan of his Gattaca - 7/10 - lots of good ideas here; Andrew Niccol never really delivered on this as a director afterwards
Lucky Number Slevin - ~7, derivative but much of it is a blast Perfect Strangers - N/S The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - 7.5 - Deliciously malevolent - a 70s cult film in the best sense The Hitcher - ~7 the original I assume? Hauer is the best thing in it - has some jolts
Mother Joan of Angels - at least an 8.5 - visually spectacular Body Double - 6.5/10 - a faltering DePalma but still has some of the old juice; some very funny in-jokes..........maybe too much

just gunna comment on what i've seen
the shape of water: highly recommended. to be noted that its the only gdt film i've even liked, let alone as much as i do, but its a fucking masterpiece, and a film totally made for u. my #1 of the year.
blow out: the kind of film which will make u love depalma. a great film to watch to pass time in general. and young travolta is in it so that's a plus
gattaca: you might enjoy the fuck outta it but i really didn't, sorry. felt too repetitive. hawke is timelessly pretty tho, i gotta tell ya.
to live and die in l.a.: mid tier friedkin. would only recommend watching it if u're a friedkin fan/completist.
check pm

The Shape of Water - 6/10 Fine but somewhat underwhelming
Blow Out - 10/10 an absolute masterpiece, one of the legend De Palma's very bests.
The Imposter - N/S
Mr. Brooks - 4/10 I barely can stand Costner's dull presence and this one is no exception. Starts inriguing, then gets out of control.
To Live and Die in L.A - 8/10 a cool Friedkin flick with a terrific turn from Willem Dafoe
Gattaca - 9/10 one of my favorites
Lucky Number Slevin - 4/10 Meh
Perfect Strangers - 6/10 Entertaining even if nothing overly special.
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - 7/10 Martin Sheen was a particular highlight.
The Hitcher - I liked it back in time but I need a re-watch.
Mother Joan of Angels - N/S
Body Double - 8/10 Great one but then again I'm a De Palma fanboy, I love all of his thrillers.

Drish, you gotta let me know your thoughts on Lucky Number Slevin. One of my favorite films of 2006 (it takes my Original Screenplay win).

The Shape of Water: Excessively fun and ruthlessly gorgeous. Its conventionality is successfully obfuscated by del Toro's passionate direction and the richly detailed atmosphere that he creates. It's aesthetically harmonious across the board, looking and feeling like a genuine fairy tale in the midst of a shadowy 1960s Cold War setting. The entire cast is brilliant with their fully-realized characters. This movie deftly weaves itself in and out of various moods and genres, from deeply romantic and intimate to surprisingly comedic to intricately intense.
Gattaca: Vastly understated small-scale sci-fi that I wish we had more of. I've never found it sensational, but the poignant punch it achieves with a clever concept and character-driven conflict alone is pretty wonderful.
Lucky Number Slevin: Basically the ultimate movie for douchey frat bros who think they're intelligent. I suppose I was entertained enough the one time I watched it, but in hindsight I find everything about this movie just painful.

The Shape of Water - Beautiful Cold War era fairy tale weakened by a thin screenplay - 7.5
The Imposter - I remember liking it, but honestly don't remember much about it. I assume you're talking about the documentary? - 7.5
Gattaca - Really liked this one. Very affecting and socially relevant story - 8/10
Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - Very competent but definitely dated 70s thriller/mystery. Jodie Foster's extraordinary performance elevates the whole thing, and Martin Sheen is effectively gross as the neighborhood perv. - 7.5
N/S the rest

Body Double is just fine while Blow Out is one of De Palma's best. Haven't seen the rest.

Haven't seen Gattaca in like 6 years and yet, the small and lovely feeling it evoked has stayed with me. you can't go wrong with it.
And To Live and Die in L.A gotta be one of the best cop thrillers out there. Wonder why William Petersen hasn't starred in bigger films. Makes a fine double feature with Manhunter.
