Twitter is roasting and exposing Gary Oldman left and right after his win. Looks like he won't be getting off as easy as Casey Affleck managed to last year
Hopefully Oscar voters are watching.

I feel like in any other year this would mean jackshit but with the stick that came with Affleck's win AND Hollywood's current climate...IDK.
And just as an aside, it's news to nobody that he's a shitty person. He just hid it better than some of his contemporaries.

Those who are bringing up the physical assault claim against Oldman are not looking at the whole story in the slightest. The issue was part of his second to last divorce proceeding where the court sided with Oldman which included giving him custody of his children. We'll never know the absolute truth however the facts we can learn suggest one should take the accusation with at least a grain of salt.

I didn't write this stuff but I still wanted to post it anyway : Because it needs to be said: Gary Oldman never beat his wife.
We see this come up way too often, and it really upsets us every time it does.
Yes, during their divorce proceedings, his third wife accused him of beating both her and their children. It was investigated by the courts, social services, and the LAPD, and no evidence was ever found to substantiate her claims. Gary was given full custody of their children, and she was only allowed short, court-monitored visits. The judge in the case outright called her a liar.
She also accused him of drinking and doing drugs while they were married. Gary quit drinking in 1994 with the help of rehab and Alcoholics Anonymous, and has stated numerous times that he never did, or was interested in doing, drugs.
There are several people who witnessed her applying, and then later washing off, makeup to look like bruises. She told their son Charlie, who was 2 at the time, to say that his daddy hit him. Abuse she claims was perpetuated on their children by Gary, some of it serious enough to require trips to the hospital, has no paper trail; there are no records whatsoever of any ER visits for their children, or for her.
I think what is most telling is that there are no other claims of abuse on Gary from any of his previous wives or girlfriends (Lesley Manville, Uma Thurman, Isabella Rossellini, Ailsa Marshall, and Alexandra Edenborough). You would think, when his third wife leveled her accusations against him, the previous women in his life would have come forward and said, “Yes, I was abused too.” But they didn’t. After his divorce, he dated Ailsa for about three years, and he was married to Alex for about 6 years. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that 5 women would all keep it a secret if their husband/boyfriend abused them, not to mention Gary’s girlfriends that we don’t know about.
Nobody but his third wife has made these claims, and that alone should tell you something.
Gary is quite obviously a warm, caring person, who loves with his whole heart, and it’s a shame that it had to come back and bite him in the ass in such a big way.
We would also like to point out that false claims like this are just as harmful as legitimate claims, as they further the belief that someone who is under the influence can’t be abused/raped/assaulted/etc because they must be lying. Sometimes a lie is just a lie.
We can’t stop people from continuing to report these lies, but we can at least try to make people think before choosing to believe it. fyeahgaryoldman.tumblr.com/post/12579006720/because-it-needs-to-be-said-gary-oldman-never

Yeah, people are so quick to call Oldman out for being a wife-beater don't take into account that a.) his ex-wife willingly admitted to drug abuse, b.) he got full custody of his children, and c.) no evidence was ever found to back up Fiorentino's claims. So while it shouldn't be entirely discounted, the fact that the divorce was so acrimonious and that Oldman had as much to say about her as she did about him (and a lot of what he said turned out to be true), automatically pigeonholing him as a domestic abuser is kind of a shitty thing to do.

I think there's doors that have been opened now that "a shitty thing to do" like classifying Oldman is a slippery slope - you can't take Affleck's Oscar (can you?), Woody Allen's multiple wins, Polanski's win back - so this urge to punish has taken on a life of its own.
Franco gets in - maybe, maybe not.......Oldman loses maybe, maybe not.......but more and more it's a circus atmosphere. To discuss it logically seems a mistake in the first place.........

You all make fair points but in the #MeToo era we are currently in, it seems people will automatically take the side of the woman over the male right from the beginning

Hadn't even heard anything about this, but based on what I've seen here this doesn't deserve to be a big story.

And just because you want it to be true doesn't make it true. I highly doubt a court of law would have given him custody if it was.
