Such a banner year for leading actresses, and the nominees in particular... These performances are all so uniquely strong. I'll rank them like so... 1. Isabelle Adjani, The Story of Adèle H. (peerless, really - THE greatest of all time) 2. Ann-Margret, Tommy3. Carol Kane, Hester Street4. Glenda Jackson, Hedda5. Louise Fletcher, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (obviously worthy of praise, even if I can't quite LOVE this performance) pacinoyes, you know I'm curious to get your input.

I'm afraid I'm rather predictably saying Adjani - now if it was Adjani against Liv Ullman the next year that would be an all time battle (or actually Rowlands too in 74 for me - all 3 are all-time female top 10 imo) Story of Adele H. is a remarkable true story and a remarkable film of that story - it's almost unfair that her performance always dominates talk about it........but then again, how can it not. Still, I know people who love Truffaut who have never seen it and it always baffles me. I can play many scenes from that movie in my head, and I haven't seen it in quite a while - it's that vivid and precise.
