An Education Shame Mudbound
1. An Education 2. Mudbound ... 3. Shame
Not that much separating the first two, but I feel she was a bit better and in her usual form in An Education even though I thought her accent and southern thing worked in Mudbound... maybe don't deserve a win but I've seen the top 3 supporting actress candidates and I'm confused as to why any of them are leading ahead, because I preferred Mulligan to all. And as for Shame...... nothing interesting about her there, but that's my general feelings for the whole movie.

I think she's decent in An Education, a complete non-entity in Mudbound, and has one good scene and is otherwise unbearably histrionic in Shame.

1) Shame - phenomenal performance in a phenomenal film. My win for the year easily.
2) An Education - really good here, carried the film (which was otherwise totally unremarkable) and always felt very real.
3) Mudbound - she's good here, albeit nothing that especially stands out as brilliant. She's one of my favourite performances in the film though.
From what I've seen, Mulligan's a really solid, consistent actress. The one performance of her's I don't like is in The Great Gatsby, but then almost no one's acting abilities remain intact when Baz Luhrmann is involved.

Can't believe you didn't mention NEVER LET ME GO and SUFFRAGETTE , though. She delivers such powerhouse performances in those ones as well

Shame. the movie it has one of the laziest screenplays of the decade and moments where she should be in she's nowhere to be found, still, when I think about this movie is all of her scenes, she brings the energy needed, she's a wreak and incredibly weak and in small reactions reflects that ( the laugh when she caughts her brother masturbating in the bathroom ).
Mudbound. I'd rank it higher if she had a more fleshed out character, but basically every other character suffers from that, the difference is that all the narration she recites complements her performance, one fit with the other ( I'm talking about the poetic aspect of it, no other actor in that movie sold me they will ever talk or think like that, with Mulligan it was easy, and that's to her credit not the writing ) and the characterization is great, I believe her in the period.
An Education. She's charming in it but the function of the movie is to show us a new talent has emerged. She has grow up as an actress a lot since then.
