My happiness for Ronan winning would be outweighed by my anger at McDormand losing.
Haven't seen CMBYN yet, so can't comment on Chalamet.

I would love to see Ronan win.
I would be fine with Chalamet winning but I didn't think his performance was OMG Best Eva! Like the raves are suggesting. And if I'm being honest the idea of Gary Oldman being an Oscar winner is more appealing for me.

I've pretty much already convinced myself Ronan is winning, much as I'd prefer it were McDormand. She just seems to have everything in her favor to take it.
A Chalamet win would be overpowered by envy that a 21-year-old would reach such an accomplishment while I'm just sitting here typing about it.

Exactly what Viced said for the actresses. As for Chalamet, he'd be so deserving although I'd love to see someone like Franco or Jackman (one can dream, you know) win.

I could honestly see it happening. I don’t get upset over the Oscars as they have a lot wrong with their whole set up and almost never align with my tastes anyway. But I liked Ronan in Lady Bird and would be fine with her winning. Haven’t seen Chalamet’s film and don’t really have a big desire to, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he won.

I've not seen Chalamet's competition, but I wasn't all that blown away by his performance. He was good, but I genuinely don't see why everyone is losing their collective minds over his performance. I think one of the things that irritates me most about the film is how everything feels portrayed at arm's length, and that level of detachment kind of kills any investment I have in his character, and even though I think that final shot is haunting, I don't rest its power entirely on Chalamet's shoulders. The music goes a hell of a long way towards making that shot work as well as it does. I know people would call it sacrilegious to say anything about Chalamet that isn't vaunting praise, but if he were to win, I'd rate him above Redmayne and Affleck but below the other Best Actor winners this decade. Still, it'd be pretty neat to see the Academy go for someone young in that category for once, and I'd hope to see Chalamet avoid the Timothy Hutton trap if he does.
Similarly, Ronan's performance frustrates me as much as Chalamet's, and for largely the same reason. I didn't find Lady Bird or Elio to be likable characters, and while I feel that both actors are innately charming, I found them largely unsympathetic. In Ronan's case, I think her accent work and buoyancy is admirable, but the film was just 2Gerwig4Me, and it all came together to create a character that was technically impressive but otherwise aggravating as hell. Unlike Chalamet, I have seen at least one performance Ronan is up against, and as much as I love Saoirse in general, if she beats McDormand, it's highway robbery of the highest order.

Completely agree with your thoughts on Chalamet and the film. I've only seen Kaluuya of the other potential best actor nominees and I thought he was better tbh.

they give my two favorite performances of the year in their perspective categories, so I'd be fine with it. Would Ronan really be an upset though?

I loved "Lady Bird" and I'm rooting for Saoirse to win. So I'd happy.
As for Chalamet, I liked his performance and I'd be fine with his win.

Haven’t seen much this year but Chalamet is remarkable and Ronan is good, so just on that basis I wouldn’t be disappointed. Having said that, I doubt that the latter is the best in her category. Lady Bird hits all the right notes but it’s ultimately a pretty slight film and Ronan’s performance doesn’t confer much weight to it, either. She was still better than last year’s winner, though (not that that would take very much).

Chalamet is by far and away my favourite performance of the year from what I've seen, and I'd love if he won. I've yet to see Oldman, Day-Lewis and a few others, but I'd be shocked if I liked them more than Chalamet.
Having just watched Lady Bird and Three Billboards, I'm torn over whether I prefer Ronan or McDormand. Right now I'm leaning slightly towards the former, but either one winning would be fantastic.

Just throwing a scenario out there. What would be your reaction? Happy/angry? Happy, they are my front runners in both categories. Chalamet in particular, his performance is outstanding.

Just throwing a scenario out there. What would be your reaction? Happy/angry? Trully happy because I'm tired that old guys are the only winning ones. The younges academy award winner was 29 Adam Brody who looks much older, maybe that's why he won. Any way my prediction is Gary Oldman and booby Robbie.-

I don't think either would be considered "an upset". The race for the 2 lead awards is more open than previous years.

I would be fine with both of those. I wouldn't consider either an upset though, since best actress can go to anyone and Chamalet has currently been a winning a lot of the awards lately.

Ronan has a little shot but I don't think Chalamet will win, not this year.
One of the most inspiring performances in years but he will fail to win over a legend/veteran like Gary Oldman in a role that defines Oscar-

Haven't seen Lady B but I don't think Chalalalamet deserves it over My avatar. Lol this looks like one of the false name spellings merc would make.
