I have this weird relationship with The Post, in which for a day I despise how baity it is, and the next I'm super excited to see Streep killing it in a Spielberg flick. Darkest Hour is a movie that, if it was directed by anyone else than Jow Wright, I just wouldn't care less. But I love Atonement and P&P, so here I am. I'm not really feeling the love for Disaster Artist, Stronger, that Denzel Washington film, Last Flag Flying and The Florida Project.

Lady Bird and The Florida Project. I've never warmed up to Greta Gerwig as an actress, so I can't seem to work up any excitement for her directorial debut.
As for The Florida Project, all I can say is Tangerine was a bitter disappointment and I don't want to get burned again.

I have little interest in watching an old woman be unpleasant for two hours in Three Billboards.
Phantom Thread looks boring.
Lady Bird looks unbearable.

Phantom Thread, The Post, Molly’s Game, All The Money in the World. Like, I would watch the first three movies, but I can’t stand Ridley Scott outside the Alien films, and maybe Blade Runner (still haven’t seen Gladiator).

I thought it was fine, though I was more impressed by the fact that it was shot on iPhones. What about it disappointed you? I also thought Florida Project was far better, more moving and funny.

I guess it was just the hype machine got to me. I'd heard for a few months before I watched it how it was a masterpiece and so much more than just the "iPhone movie" and when I watched it, I saw none of that. It felt like some 20 year old film students first attempt at a movie (well, that might be a little harsh) The actors were all fine though, they did everything they could with the material. Dafoes performance is the thing I'm most looking forward to in The Florida Project- do you feel a Supporting Actor win would be warranted?

The Post looks excruciatingly boring, but I'll reluctantly see it if it gets a BP nom. I will likely never see Molly's Game. I also wasn't too hyped for Three Billboards or Darkest Hour, the former was a pleasant surprise and the latter had its good qualities as well.

TheAlwaysClassy - I think Dafoe getting a Supporting Actor win would be most deserved. He has one particular scene in the middle of the film that I found impressive, and the rest of the movie, he's very sincere and has a commanding presence. @tylerferrerosorel - I actually have not seen Thelma and Louise either.

Same as you, except Darkest Hour (I'm into everything about WW2).
I also do not care for Phantom Thread, but I never cared for P.T.A. in general, so no surprises here.

I typically feel uninterested in a lot of the buzzy films every year, but this year in particular has already been lame as hell, and the buzzy films left to see don't look much better. The only two I'm still interested in are Call Me by Your Name and I, Tonya and even the latter isn't getting as much buzz as others.
I've not been a fan of Spielberg since Munich, so The Post just looks like more vanilla filmmaking to me and would only be interested in it for Odenkirk, Whitford, and Stuhlbarg. Not much else.
Darkest Hour is a no-go for me. I love Joe Wright, but this just looks like a parody more than anything else.
I like PTA just fine, but Inherent Vice was a huge disappointment for me, and Phantom Thread doesn't look that interesting to me at all. It looks sleep-inducing. I'm sure I'll still check it out down the road, but not looking forward to it (especially since I don't like DDL that much as an actor anyway).
I don't know. Pretty much anything that isn't the two I mentioned at the top really look that interesting to me. Will probably just watch those two in theaters soon, and then try to catch up on free movies I find streaming online.

Darkest Hour - Even though Gary Oldman in a juicy role alone makes it worth checking out, nothing else about the film interests me. Mudbound - I'm sure I'll probably like it and I'm a fan of Jason Mitchell, but for some reason I just can't muster up that much excitement for this. All the Money in the World - Another one where I'm more interested in a performance (in this case Christopher Plummer) than the film itself, even with Ridley Scott directing.

I'm clearly a huge Oscar bait whore, because the only ones that occur to me right now are Victoria & Abdul, The Greatest Showman and Stronger. The first one I saw yesterday, Showman I'm probably seeing later today, and Stronger I'll eventually get around to too because it's Gyllenhaal. Tom Hooper could put out a gay Holocaust drama with Eddie Redmayne and I'd see it just to take part in the discussion. And to diss it with proper conviction, of course.

The Greatest Showman. It's gonna be real hard to force myself to watch it.
The other buzzy films I had no interest in seeing, well, I already saw 'em.

Most of them. The only ones that look quite interesting to me are Molly's Game, The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Wait, is there actually buzz around The Greatest Showman? If so, I'll have to include it too.

Phantom Thread - The director is top notch and DDL is probably the best living actor today BUT I don't find this film to be interesting at all. DDL's last film is where he plays a dress maker?! :gone mad: pass

The Greatest Showman. It's gonna be real hard to force myself to watch it. Having now sat through it and subjected myself to what felt like Disney and Ryan Murphy Present: 3 Hours of Sia's Greatest Ballads... critics are going too soft on it. Being an Oscar bait whore has its downsides.
