More likely to win the Oscar for Best supporting actress 2018 ? I have no idea this year. I'm even more clueless than usual, lol. First, I thought Metcalf might win most of the critics' awards, and then it would switch to Janney winning the industry awards. Then, Lady Bird just kept getting bigger and bigger, and then it made perfect sense to award it with Best Supporting Actress at the industry awards. Now I think that Ronan is winning Best Actress, and I'm back to thinking that maybe Janney wins the televised awards. For the poll, I voted for Metcalf though because for now I think Lady Bird is strong enough to win two acting awards.

Sigh...as much as I want Janney to win but Lady Bird is the stronger film, so I guess Metcalf has it in the bag.

I reached the point to believe Metcalf could actually win but its a tough battle that will be decided by SAG and somehow I can see Janney there… so I still go Janney.

Janney, but after seeing I, Tonya, and having more time to reflect on it, it’s laughable that she’s going to go that far. She is ridiculously mediocre in that movie. Even for dark comedy, the way she plays it is so laughably exaggerated, and it’s such a thoroughly one-dimensional character. And that’s really not helped, and only exacerbates those issues when the film tries to take her seriously and play things sincere, except she’s so cartoonish that it just feels like whiplash when that happens.
And I don’t know much about her real-life counterpart, I don’t care to, yet while I know she probably got all the technicals down, that’s just the thing. It is *all* technical. She’s definitely trying, but every single second, you can see the cogs turning, and none of it feels natural or spontaneous. It just feels to me like a classic achievement win, because Alison Janney (deservingly, to be fair) is such a well-regarded staple in the industry, that that’s what’s pushing her to the top. Unless there’s something about this performance I just don’t “get.”
In short, I am Stephen, and Janney is my Arquette.

I guess it wouldn’t help to say it felt more American Hustle than Goodfellas. But we disagree on quite a bit, so there’s still hope.

I thought it was definitely Metcalf, but Janney's picked up so much momentum recently I think she's going all the way. Rockwell's doing the same thing to Dafoe.
It's too bad, because neither of those performances are better than the ones they're overtaking.

Saw I, Tonya tonight. I think SAG and Oscar will swing Janney's way. It's louder, showier . . . and better.

The fact that Allison Janney is sweeping this award season is depressing. I'm generally a fan of hers but this performance is borderline bad. Not sure what else she does other than smoke, curse and hit her kid. I'm shocked people actually think this one note acting job it's better than Laurie Metcalf's multilayered, nuanced performance in Lady Bird. I guess with award shows louder is always better?

Getting J.K. Simmons vibes from this race tbh. That was a one-note performance too, if we're being honest.

I really hope Metcalf wins it, but I'd be happy with Janney as well.
