Thank you. I thought about opening up threads for this, St. Louis, and updating winners to San Francisco and the British Independent Film Awards, but I just don't have that kind of energy, lol.

What a day for Sam Rockwell. He lost four awards to Dafoe, he couldn't win BIFA and now he loses another award to his co-star.

I don't think his nomination in jeopardy, but it's definitely looking like he won't be as competitive with Dafoe as many of us thought.

I thought Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri would do really well and didn't expect the backlash that it's getting at all. I also thought The Post would be stronger, but right now it's not looking so good. I think it will still do well with the industry, but I don't think that it has enough to win Best Picture, maybe Best Actress, but I think Ronan is more likely at the moment because this would be her third nomination, and Lady Bird seems like it will be very strong at the moment.

Really happy for the Woodman. Rockwell was great, but I preferred three of his male co-stars to him.

Peele over NOLAN? Give me a fucking break. The lack of Nolan love so far has genuinely surprised me. I know it's just the critics' circuit, but they were the source of much of his praise to begin with. I thought for sure he was the Oscar frontrunner (and I suppose he still might be), but now the race is looking like even more of a clusterfuck than BP.

I'd really question the legitimacy of these awards - well all awards but especially these, haha. I go to Philly once a month for my job and it's BS for movies as far as I can see - Steven Rea (an awful critic imo) basically controls this group, there is one art house in Philly really that's it (due to a grotesque monopoly, 3 theaters).......one basic newspaper runs the town (Rea's Philly Inquirer).......not even a strong City Paper or alternative press. Suburbs have a presence but not a strong voice sway for something like this.
On a different note, Rockwell is excluded from the mediocrity I guess is the way I look at it....the most complex character in the most complex movie, the backlash against the film is literally because it doesn't make you feel good or doesn't send an easily discernible message......it's the worst kind of critical thought.

Yes, from a stanning point of view, it's not been very good although I'll be happy for Dafoe and whomever out of Janney or Metcalf wins Best Supporting Actress, but as someone who usually complains about how predictable the award season gets, I have to say that so far it's been pretty good. Dafoe looks like he'll probably sweep, but other than that there's still a lot of doubt in most of the other big races. I can't remember the last time that so many races were still undecided.

Oh okay. I was terrified you were going to say Lucas Hedges He's much better in this than he was in Manchester, though. I strongly disagree. He didn’t deserve his Supporting nod for Manchester, but he wasn’t bad. Conversely, I didn’t buy one line he said or one emotion he awkwardly tried to convey in Three Billboards. Easily the worst part of the movie.
