I finished the book last week in about two days or so; I'm dying to see this.

There was a moment in the film where I thought I was going to call it overrated and be a cynic where I thought it was meandering and I just thought everything about it seemed a little too neat ........and then before I knew it somehow it grows in power and I think the ending is a knockout. A James Ivory specialty actually.......currently I rank it my top 5 with a lot more to see, but I expect it, like Lady Bird, will stay in my top 10.

Once the relationship goes up a notch I thought the film just lost some sort of focus or something, and I felt it started to drag, then from that train station scene on to the end it just turned into classic Ivory silent hammer to the heart stuff.

I'm almost finished reading the novel, and I've been listening to "Mystery of Love" obsessively over the past week or so. This is for sure my most anticipated for the rest of the year that's not Phantom Thread. It sucks that this is getting such a frustrating release, it's starting to seem like it won't be available for me until late January or so.

If Chalamet ends up with Best Actor, it'll be one of my favourite wins for the category - partly because it'll be a refreshing, pleasant surprise and partly because he's that fucking good.

We are one the same exact page, I think the weakest stretch of the film was the 30 or so minutes after Elio and Oli consummate the relationship. Editing felt haphazard and the pacing erratic. Like Brokeback Mountain I think the film rushed to advance the story after that pivotal point in the men’s relationship. But then the two boys went to Rome and I was mesmerized again up until the final frame.

It would be the most inspired win in a very long time. But the Academy has a huge blind spot to male actors under 30 so unfortunately I think his nomination will be his award.

I probably won't be able to see it until January... So jealous. I think it's a safe bet that you'll love it. It's not a perfect film but still reaches some formidable emotional highs. Where Carol was studied and Moonlight was moody and intense, CMBYNM is sensuous, lyrical, and completely naked in its emotion.

Yep, they only seem to favour female ingenues (Lawrence, Larson, Stone etc) for some bizarre reason. Chalamet would be the youngest winner by quite a margin, no? I feel like he has more buzz than Oldman from a critical standpoint, and the film in general is a stronger contender on the whole, but I'm still cautious to go all-in on predicting him as the winner. Hopefully the Academy surprises us!

A coming of age story. A tale of first love. Glamorous Americans summering in Italy. Any categorization would be an oversimplification of the evocative and intoxicating world of Call Me By Your Name...

Can't really describe how profoundly I was touched and moved by this film. The relationship between Elio and Oliver was so beautiful and authentic. I fell in love with both characters.

I watched it the other night. From the moment I heard the opening credits tune, I knew I was in for something special. Both leads are great but I was much more taken by Hammer, though Chalamet is truly remarkable. Also goes without saying, but Stuhlbarg’s speech near the end is quietly powerful. And that ending messed with my heart in a way that only like 2 other films this year did.
