Has anyone played frustration better? And I'm not talking about the scene with Sarandon's character. It's the one after with his wife who is babbling on and on, and he screams "would you shut the fuck up and listen to me?!" And by the time he hangs up, he's so exhausted. I get in a mood to watch 70s era Pacino occasionally, and that scene is my favorite Pacino scene.

Dog Day Afternoon is easily Pacino's best performance.

I rank it as the great 1-2 punch in American film history with GFII (which I consider his best) - they are just so diverse. His phone scene is just fascinating to watch, a lot of his rep was based on stuff like that - like how can a guy talking on the phone be that riveting but .........it is.
It's my 2nd favorite scene after the reading of the will

GOAT performance by Pacino. It just gets more brilliant on every rewatch somehow. He's on fire in this!

GOAT performance by Pacino. It just gets more brilliant on every rewatch somehow. He's on fire in this! He does get better with every rewatch! Not that I ever thought he was anything less than extraordinary. But I think this might top Godfather II as my favorite Pacino performance because I could watch him as Sonny every day. He's that good.
