LOL, took 'em 45 minutes to announce Best First Film, as if it were a tough choice.

LOL, took 'em 45 minutes to announce Best First Film, as if it were a tough choice. Maybe they were arguing about whether Lady Bird was eligible or not.

ETA: I'm glad I didn't step out just now because Willem Dafoe won. Get that critics' sweep!!!

Legend Dafoe just won! I keep flipflopping between him and Rockwell, but with this mini sweep perhaps even more and backlash against Rockwell's character, I think Dafoe makes sense. Plus, he might be the only veteran in a group of newbies. ETA: Maybe I should keep making new posts because everytime I do, it seems like they announce a winner. This is a big get for Tiffany!!! I think she can sneak in since only Janney and Metcalf are locked in.

I think she can sneak in since only Janney and Metcalf are locked in. Rockwell has the showiest part and is campaigning non-stop but indeed, there's been a certain backlash against his character and "Three Billboards" right now doesn't seem as strong as it used to be with recent snubs. Dafoe's film lacks enough of passion maybe but he's still the legend of his craft with two nominations and is definitely more respected, beloved and known figure than Rockwell thanks to his incredibly diverse filmography. He'll benefit from that. With Stuhlbarg not winning anything and even losing some nominations to Hammer, I think I gave up on him. P.S. Whoa, Tiffany won? What an unexpected but pleasent surprise.

I initially went with Ronan, but I thought they wouldn't give it to her twice in three years. Proves what I know. I did call Chalamet, though.

Yes, I figured Chalamet would win Best Actor, so I figured they wouldn't go with two younger actors. Whoops. I totally missed it too because I went to go get something to eat. I'm just glad it was just one award I missed because I would have been so mad if they had announced the rest of the winners since I've already wasted all this time on them.

Did not see that coming. I think this helps The Post because it can still win Best Picture without Best Original Screenplay, but if Phantom Thread becomes a threat there, it hurts Get Out, Lady Bird, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

They started a little predictable, but can't believe how many curveballs they've thrown. The Florida Project just keeps fighting even though I thought it was dead.

I knew that they loved Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, but I thought Call Me By Your Name would have the edge. I never expected Lady Bird to win Best Picture over it.
I liked how they spread the wealth this year since most of the time this group tends to reward one film or few films.
Also while I think it would have been nice for The Post to get something here, I think it's safe because it's more of a televised awards thing like Oldman and perhaps Janney.
On the other hand, this seems like another big blow to The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri that they didn't win at least something here.

Cant express how happy I am for Chalamet. He has been my unbeatable favorite performance of the year since early February!

Damn, Phantom Thread is happening! Ronan deserves that recognition! But would she be this year's Huppert? Is lady Bird that great? Lady Bird is absolutely beautiful cinema.

I guess I gotta see Girl’s Trip now. Is this another McCarthy case?
And yay Lady Bird! I’m starting to think Saoirse could win now.

Mudbound for cinematography is the only disappointing one here. I'm stoked for anything and everything Lady Bird and The Florida Project, and PTA already picking up two awards for screenplay has me absolutely elated.

I guess I gotta see Girl’s Trip now. Is this another McCarthy case? I'm predicting that Haddish will be a default nominee, if they can't find a 'worthy' black actor/actress to nominate. You know it's true. After #OscarsSoWhite, I doubt that the Academy will have all-white nominees in the acting categories for the foreseeable future.

Spencer and Blige are in contention in the same catagory
