She has multiple Emmys from her work on "Roseanne" and she is fresh off her Tony win for "A Doll's House, Part 2." Can she manage the Oscar for Lady Bird? Who would have thought it'd be her?

Would be nice, but I doubt it especially with Janney in the mix. I love both Janney and Metcalf, so I would be happy with either winning this year. I think Janney will, but I'm not counting out Metcalf yet. Lady Bird keeps doing better than I would have ever expected, so if voters want to honor the film somewhere, I could see a path for Metcalf. It's probably Janney though because it sounds like she's a scene stealer, she's beloved in the industry, and she's campaigning more than Metcalf will.

And Janney plays a real person so that's her edge.

In a year without Allison Janney this actually might have happened...

I would die from joy if Metcalf pulls off an Oscar win this year.

*Ahem* This is a great place to reward the film as a whole. Just sayin'.

At least she will be nominated. Speaking of "Roseanne" it is criminal the John Goodman has never been nominated.

Doubt it. The film's best and only chance of a win is in screenplay.

I think she’s a spoiler. Although beyond her just being phenomenal, I want her to win so people take more notice of her. I’m sure Janney’s fantastic, she’s shown that time and time again, but Metcalf is so underrated, and deserves better than she usually gets.

A few weeks ago I would have said that Allison Janney would be the undoubted favorite but now I think Laurie Metcalf is a total threat for several reasons. Not only is she winning several awards but her movie (Lady Bird) is apparently more liked than I Tonya and is a contender for Best Picture. That's more the fact that her character is more pleasant than Janney's.
