The La La Land snubbed proved the SAG ensemble nod importance. Which five movies will score the nod?
Right now, I'm going with the following:
The Post
Get Out
Three Billboards
Mudbound
The Darkest Hour

1. The Post - I don't know if they'll get screeners out in time, but it seems like a no brainer as long as screeners go out. 2. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - This seems like another no brainer. 3. Mudbound - SAG loves Netflix, so this should get in there. 4. The Big Sick - Now is where it gets tricky for me. They're usually not opposed to comedies here, and with it being an early popular release, I think it has a good chance here. 5. The Shape of Water - I don't know. I could see it's genre turning off some voters, but it could be nominated for 3 individual SAGs and seems to be a crowd pleaser.

I wouldn't say La La Land indicates anything-- it just wasn't really an ensemble film.

Nah, I don't think the La La Land snub was a sign of anything. It was a two-men show, it was pointless to get an ensemble nod. Anyways, just looked up the previous nominees of the SAG, to get a notion of what they like to award.
- I, Tonya: big cast, with adored TV actress Allison Janney on the spotlight. - Ladybird: it might be too much of an indie darling, but SAG liked Boyhood and Captain Fantastic - Mudbound: socially relevant and SAG likes to throw Netflix a bone - The Post: Streep and Hanks, and many adored actors from TV. I'd say it can be a winner. - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: Oscar frontrunner with a big cast with many recognizable faces Alternate: The Shape of Water. Big cast and another Oscar frontrunner, with a well-regarded performance from Hawkins. Yet, I feel like it could miss, but if I, Tonya underwhelms, it can be the 5th spot.

I'm starting to lose some faith in Mudbound (its AFI premiere went unnoticed). Also not sure about Darkest Hour. The category is very competitive this year. I'll go with:
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri The Post Get Out Lady Bird The Shape of Water

I wouldn't say La La Land indicates anything-- it just wasn't really an ensemble film. Well all the bp winners have at least scored a SAG nod. I guess I'm getting to the fact that we can look at the upcoming SAG ensemble nod to find our winner.

Odd that films like The Artist were nominated despite also being very centered on two characters without much for the supporting cast.

I just typed out a huge fucking response that took me several minutes to write, and then I got a gray screen saying "Drop files here to upload" and lost all that work because I couldn't go back to where I was.
So fuck this category and fuck everyone that gets nominated for it.
Fucking gray screen.
(What can ya do, I'll try again later, I guess.)
