Will all this Kevin Spacey under age talk affect it's Oscar chances?

Doubtful. It's a consensual relationship in Call Me By Your Name (and one that is actively pursued by the younger person), and I think that any comparison drawn will likely be minimal (and likely dismissed). I think what will affect this particular's film's Oscar chances is that it's a gay coming-of-age indie film on the heels of another gay coming-of-age indie film that just won Best Picture. The Academy may have its tastes, but it's rare when they double up on a particular genre back-to-back.

The fact that a consensual relationship between a 17 year-old and 20-something year-old man even carries a hint of controversy in America is fucking stupid.

I don't think so. Elio is more so a 25 year old stuck in a 17 year olds body.
