[Updated... just couldn't wait for a re-watch of Elizabeth lol]. These are the performances of her that just mean so much to me... she might be technically better than the #3-#5 here, somewhere else (though I doubt it). - 5 - The Aviator (2004) In what was either the second or third performance that I saw of her (LotR was probably before this) I fell in love with whatever she was doing here. YEARS later I discovered K. Hepburn, and part of me is scared to re-watch this one tbh but yeah, really gave me an idea of Cate Blanchett as a fun, commanding presence on screen. - 4 - Carol (2015) Kate McKinnon gave that "TheRESE" such a memorable comedic touch I'll never get over it. Other than that, it's truly delicate work. Naughty note: she's at least 1/4 of the reason that is my favorite sex scene...ever probably? - 3 - Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) gurl, to stand out in an ensemble like that? I mean, behind Coogan and Molina. But they were two, in your segment you are the two and I love the format of this film. Any time you want you can give any chapter you want a go. - 2 - I'm Not There (2007) Early 2010s, you'd ask me who are my favorite actor and actress I'd tell you the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and Cate, only because of this performance here. Like I don't even wanna bother to intellectualize my affection towards it (since I did such a good job to this point ) but the androgynous appearance and mannerism (totally get if it may put off some btw) was the coolest thing I've seen, and I hadn't known about Fellini and other influences then yet. Got me into Dylan to a degree in fact. Around this time, I remember how quiet was her board on the old IMDB (ah, I know)... then she won an Oscar for Blue Jasmine (which I wasn't a big fan of), and a new generation of fans showed up to her/or announced their presence, and I couldn't gate-keep, and generally got interested in other kinds of films and entertainment and you know life... didn't follow many 2014-2020 releases. I caught Ocean's Eight and Cindrella because of her, where she didn't disappoint but you'd forget them second (or even before) they're finished. Total opposite of this next gem... - 1 - Tár (2023) Late to the party, spent the whole night thinking about how I'd word this but others have done way better job of it already. It's simply a towering achievement and if you haven't this at your #1, pass me what you're smoking.Long Live the Queen.

HM: I also really liked her in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Made beautiful use of her short screen time.
