I dunno, I have only seen 3 films in a theater this year so far (Get Out, The Beguiled, Lucky) but for me not much to get me excited about until McDonaugh's film but I have a lot of catching up to do.
In the meantime..............2013 for me was the best, lots of strong film across a wide variety of types too that year. Big and little films - 12 Years a Slave, ILD, WoWS, Stoker, Joe, Her, Under the Skin - lots of films with a fascinating and new perspectives I thought.
Edit - saw 4 films this year, forgot mother!

2015 and 2012 exist, so no. 2017's got potential at the back-end, though, and I have seen two undisputed masterpieces this year, so I'm hopeful.

It's a down year for film. One only needs to look at the Oscar contenders. If The Post fails - which seems likelier with each passing day - it'll look pretty thin. Even after you peruse all of the festival selections, you'll still be left with a weaker watchlist than in previous years.

I have only seen a small handful of films so far from this year, but there aren't as many titles that grab me this year like there were in 2016. And 2013 and 2011 still were bustling years, filled with activity (2013 has my favorite film of the decade, About Time). But this year is better than that trainwreck of a year, 2012, though, and is probably on par with hit-and-miss (ie the great films were great, but not too many were extraordinarily memorable) 2010, 2014 and 2015.

It's still too early to tell. Blade Runner 2049 is among the tops of the decade, Dunkirk and Logan are aces, and there's a bunch of other solid ones rounding out this year's depth. But I'm still not sure if I like this year as much as either of the past two or 2011, though, but there's a lot to be anticipated coming up in awards season.

So far 2017 has been a bastard. I can't remember the last time I've been so underwhelmed, disappointed, confused (there hasn't been just one or two critically praised films that I found genuinely... below average... but many, many). I've seen close to 40 films released this yr...... and I dunno, there's only a handful of films coming out I think I might love. This yr could be, maybe, the worst this century.
This decade, 2010 gets my pick; great number of personal favs (Social Network, Ghost Writer, Black Swan, Mother, Carlos, etc).

Heeeelll no. Granted I've only seen 19 movies this year but most of them have been disappointments. I still have high hopes for Call Me By Your Name, The Florida Project, Three Bilboards, and Lady Bird, but even if I love those, 2017 won't compare to 2014, 2013, or 2016. I've only seen one film this year that I can call legitimately great, and more than a couple critically acclaimed movies that I thought were just decent.

Too early to say, I kinda doubt it'll end up that way, but it's been pretty damn good so far. These are all great: The Meyerowitz Stories, Wonderstruck, The Florida Project, Ex Libris, The Lost City of Z, Brawl in Cell Block 99, A Quiet Passion, Good Time, A Ghost Story, Columbus, Resident Evil: Final Chapter, Split, Personal Shopper, Nocturama.
Lots of good stuff to come too.

Not at all. Based on what movies would you say that? Not that plenty of good movies couldn't be released at the end of the year as generally happens.
2010, 2013, and 2015 were all really good.

Haven't seen much really, many movies didn't caught my interest, I even skipped movies from directors I'd normally go on week release, it's normally in the next months when I'll finally see more and form an opinion on the year overall. But so far, for me 2014 is probably the richest with 2013 as a close second and 2011 not far behind.
