Which 3 Women actress do you generally prefer: the Cannes winner or the Oscar winner?

I love Shelley, but Sissy Spacek is the greatest living actress.

Sissy Spacek both in general and in this particular film.

Generally, Spacek. In 3 Women, Duvall.

I love Shelley, but Sissy Spacek is the greatest living actress. I didn't know you felt that way! Rowlands has taken that title for me, but she is pretty damn close. Speaking of things Spacek-related, I was over my mother's and she was watching that abomination of a remake Carrie. She even turned it off 30 minutes in because it just didn't grab her. Moretz did not hold a candle to Spacek in that role and Julianne Moore was freaking AWFUL in a role Piper Laurie slayed. Spacek is irreplaceable!

She's second only to Geraldine Page overall. And yeah, the 2013 Carrie is garbage in every single way.

Was Julianne Moore as awful the whole way through as she was in those first 30 minutes I saw? I love her, but that was egregious.

And yeah, Moore is a rollicking dumpster fire throughout the film. She really is one of the most inconsistent actresses alive, right behind Amy Adams.

Yeah, I already edited once I caught that. I still need to see more of Geraldine Page. *sigh* Well, I still love them both for the Hours and Junebug.

I could give you so many recommendations for Page's work. Even in lesser films, she was mighty. Moore and Adams have their moments, but damned if they don't have their lows as well. I was bummed about Adams getting snubbed last year, but then I remembered she did Nocturnal Animals that same year and I made my peace with it.

Oh come on, Amy Adams wasn't THAT bad in Nocturnal Animals. Boring, maybe, but I blame the film, which I thought was a big snooze.

Spacek, but both are really great, and Duvall is better in 3 Women.

Even though I kept wishing that it was Jessica Chastain playing the role instead (she has a sophistication that Adams lacks), I agree that the latter did a pretty decent job overall. She really didn't have much to do except look constipated while reading a manuscript, though. I thought her "before" scenes with Gyllenhaal were her best.
