Anyone hear anything reliable about The Post yet? This is in response to someone talking about changing their predictions based on a screening reaction.

I believe these about as much as the early buzz that Suicide Squad was great.

While it is a bit disconcerting that we don't even have a teaser for it yet with it being a few days from November, a lot of this feels like supposition.

Not buying any of that until we hear it from a credible source.
The idea of Steven Spielberg shuffling around to get it out in time for an Oscar deadline even though it has the star power and subject matter to get attention and make reasonable bank at any time of the year is... not particularly believable. Same with that being the reason we don't have a trailer. This thing wrapped filming like three hours ago, of course we haven't seen any footage.

I kinda want it to bomb so it leaves spaces in Best Actor for Hugh Jackman and Best Actress for Margot Robbie (not that I've seen it I just wanna bang her).

Anyone hear anything reliable about The Post yet? This is in response to someone talking about changing their predictions based on a screening reaction. I haven't heard anything reliable yet, but I have seen contradictory things. Clayton Davis heard it's terrible with comparisons to Lions for Lambs and Sasha Stone indicated that a friend of a friend saw it and that it wasn't that good, although she later took it back. However, many pundits at Gold Derby have updated their predictions, and a lot of them have bumped up The Post in picture and in other major categories like actress and actor. So I think it is actually screening, and I guess for now I find it more reliable to believe that it's probably good if most pundits are bumping it up in their predictions. Of course, I believed all the advanced hype about Wonder Wheel and tried to ignore the later buzz about it being bad, but in that case I should have listened to the naysayers. Oh well. However, Steven Spielberg is a lot more consistent than Woody Allen, and given the subject matter, even if it underwhelms, I think Streep is probably still safe, and maybe even Hanks because of how weak that category is. It probably still gets picture too in an expanded lineup; although, if it's as bad as some people are saying, Spielberg likely misses director. Although if he misses director, it would possibly mean an all newbie lineup which would be somewhat strange since that hasn't happened since 1997.

Clayton Davis is pathetic though, he's just so wrong about so many things that I've decided to ignore anything he says from now on.

The film was shot in the second quarter of 2017. I am not surprised it doesnt have a trailer yet or something.
Not worried. This will be one of this years big players.

They apparently just started recording the score this week. I find it kinda hard to believe that Spielberg would preview his movies unfinished anymore, but I don't know. Unless Davis/Stone are talking to people within the studio. I'll be surprised if Fox doesn't put out a trailer with Murder on the Orient Express next week.

Not surprised there isn't a trailer. Same thing sorta happened with Logan, that being said early reaction being this supposedly "weak", is not a great sign, I'll admit. If it does bomb, then it may pick up a few tech noms and Streep in actress, and that's it.

If it does bomb, then it may pick up a few tech noms and Streep in actress, and that's it. Yes, I just read another "insider" that says that his/her friend saw it, and it's sure to win Best Picture and Streep could win her fourth for this. That worries me even because Wonder Wheel had that kind of extreme buzz, and maybe because I tend to be pessimistic, but I tend to believe that the negative buzz might be closer to the truth in most cases. It is Spielberg, and his bombs are rare. Plus, it probably has the strongest narrative of any possible Best Picture nominee because of the subject matter. So I think it could still get in Best Picture as long as it's not a total bomb. I think Streep is in as long as it comes out this year which it seems like it will be. If she's not that good, I would be happy if she finally missed, but I'm not going to hold my breath that she'll ever be snubbed. The Hours may have been the closest that she's been to a snub, but she had Adaptation that year, and The Hours had two other more praised performances. If she just had The Hours, I think she probably would have gotten in. Plus, that was 15 years ago, and her reputation as the greatest actor ever has only grown since that time, so a snub would be even more unlikely to happen, imo.

I'll say Streep will only get snubbed if it's a smaller film, which The Post most certainly is not.

Spielberg got in for WAR HORSE. THE POST is fine, it will get in BP. Best Director is a whole different matter.

Mmm, it's only one person, but this seems like it might be mid-level Spielberg like Bridge of Spies. I'll wait though until more reactions come out.
