So, it's a legit heavyweight contender and Fox Searchlight wants to open the field for BOTS on Comedy at the Globes?

As opposed to hilarious comedies like My Week with Marilyn, Her and Inside Llewyn Davis? Have you seen it? And if you have, is it fraudable to Comedy? I imagine that's where they'll probably run it if they can, so as to keep it from going up against The Shape of Water/Hawkins. I'll wait for confirmation on this one, because for all we know this could just be GoldDerby speculation.

It'll be interesting to see if/how this affects The Shape of Water...

That delights me. They seem pretty confident in McDormand to run her in the weightier, baitier category.

Shows a lot of confidence. Ronan or Robbie for Globe comedy now?

With McDormand out of the C/M race, we have our new winner: Yes, I think Robbie wins here. She's not a huge star yet, but she's definitely on the rise, which should give her the edge at the Globes, imo. Plus, I think Robbie has a better chance are actually winning the Oscar whereas I think Ronan has zero chance. So the Globes will probably want to setup awarding the frontrunners for Oscar Robbie vs. the Drama Globe winner.

People are overestimating Robbie and underestimating Ronan. Robbie has an untested studio, and idk I, Tonya doesn't seem like a movie which would win 2 Oscars from 2 Nominations (cuz as far as I'm aware her and Janney are the only real players for the movie), it just doesn't. And Robbie is the more wildcard ingenue of the two anyway. If they had to award her, like, right now, they would've nodded her for TWOWS. Don't lie to yourself like that is irrelevant here.
Ronan, on the other hand, has a studio which has managed a total of 5 Oscars in the last 2 years for full length features alone, including a Best Actress and a Best Picture Oscar, and two Oscars which it has managed to win in a heavy category. Plus, she has 2 prev nods which shows that she's a trustworthy ingenue who the academy voters might want to award soon. Gerwig being the director and for the first time and stuff mighta hurt, but the reviews have been positive af so far (for both girls) so it ain't all bad. Ronan has the higher hand at the Globes at least.

It has this deadpan humor here and there with silly, calculated jokes but the subject matter is dark. Golden Globes have done some stupid mistakes in the past regarding category confusion but that shouldn't make them continue to do so.

Gerwig being the director and for the first time and stuff mighta hurt, but the reviews have been positive af so far (for both girls) so it ain't all bad. Ronan has the higher hand at the Globes at least. So far Neon seems to be doing a pretty good job of promoting I, Tonya, and I think it's important to remember that A24 is pretty new itself. I was worried at first about Neon too, but so far they've seemed to have done everything right. They're following the TWC plan of taking I, Tonya to as many festivals as possible where Robbie and especially Janney keep racking up raves. They're making sure that it will be eligible for BAFTA. They paid YouTube to make sure that the teaser for I, Tonya was one of the most buzzed videos. They bought two awards for it at the Hollywood Film Awards. Robbie is on the November covers of Elle and W, and being on covers for these fashion magazines has been shown to be a part of what makes a successful Best Actress campaign nowadays. I don't agree with it, Saoirse Ronan is very beautiful too, but imo Robbie seems more in demand right now for magazines like Vogue or Cosmopolitan because of Suicide Squad and being anointed the new "it" girl because of that, and because how big the Tonya Harding scandal was in the US versus a film about a teenage girl. I think that will also apply to the inevitable "what are you wearing questions". I certainly can't see Access Hollywood, E!, ET, etc. wanting to fawn all over what Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand, or even Sally Hawkins are wearing. On the other hand, Robbie should get a lot of attention on the red carpet all season especially since it looks like Best Supporting Actress could skew older, and like with some of the potential Best Actress nominees, I don't see those shows fawning over what Holly Hunter or Laurie Metcalf are wearing. As for The Wolf of Wall Street, I'm not sure what that has to do with right now. Robbie was relatively unknown at that time, and Leo got most of the attention for that film. She wasn't the rising star that she is now; although, that was certainly a huge stepping stone for her. When Scarlett Johansson didn't want to do The Big Short, Robbie was cast, and her scene is probably the most iconic from that film which is another Best Picture nominee on her filmography. She stole a film from Will Smith. Then she was cast as Harley Quinn and was pretty much the focal point of Suicide Squad's advertising campaign. She's now producing her own Oscar bait. When pictures of her as Queen Elizabeth I come out, the Internet goes crazy over how much she deglammed herself. She's one of the first young actresses mentioned now when new projects are being developed joining the company of Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, etc. Sure she's not in their league yet, it's been obvious that Hollywood wants her to be at that level. While I don't think I, Tonya is Oscar bait that Black Swan was for Natalie Portman or Monster was for Charlize Theron, I just think in a year where previous winners like McDormand and Streep and Hawkins in a genre film are the frontrunners, I think that Robbie might actually have a good chance. She might not be getting the raves that her co-star has, but she's been getting good enough reviews to win. She has the narrative of producing it, deglamming, and she's playing a real life person. The film came in second in the TIFF People's Choice Awards, and Lady Bird didn't even place. Maybe she'll end up losing the Globe even with McDormand apparently going into the Drama category, but imo, I think she has a great chance because the Globes love "it" girls like her. Plus, again she has more of a narrative for I, Tonya to win the Oscar moreso than Ronan has, and usually the Globes go with whomever has the best chance of winning the Oscar. I think that one day Ronan will win at least one Oscar, but I just don't see a path at all for Lady Bird. She has no narrative, and it's not going to be a top 3-5 film like Hawkins, McDormand, and Streep will probably be in. I've heard that the closest comparison to Lady Bird is Juno, but that film was a huge success and Juno speak was everywhere that awards season. I doubt Lady Bird is going to be that successful especially with being rated R.

How have the reviews been for Rockwell? And what are his chances in the supporting category? I don’t want to read the reviews and then get spoiled.

I think it's gonna be big whichever category it lands on, but I think I'll keep it in Comedy for now just until we get actual confirmation that that won't be the case, if only because Searchlight also have The Shape of Water to campaign, so it makes sense for them to go for double wins (Comedy/Drama) like Fox pulled off in 2015 for Picture and Actor.

It makes less sense that they put I, Tonya to comedy...
I guess they wanted to avoid the Robbie McDormand blood bath but now made the Globes incredibly predictable.

The movie walks that thin line between comedy and drama, even though the last 30-40 minutes are definitely drama. It makes sense, as a move.
It also paves the way for a McDormand win in Drama. Clearly, Fox Searchlight has faith in Three Billboards. And for a good reason: the movie is phenomenal.

Of course. This makes sense too. Maybe it'll make a bigger splash now at the globes. Could even win best picture.
