Enjoyable and with some vivid and very strong characterizations, enough to keep you ’til the end. Though the narrative/pacing is inconsistent; it fights but doesn’t flub its timely and inspired conflicts against the nooks of expedient genre conventions. Scott Frank’s writing is slightly padded but the guys gotta knack for dialogue. He gives every character a defining trait; something they teach you in film school but some (most) writers never learn. Also… it must be said: the music throughout is awful.
Jeff Daniels gives his sacrosanct tyrant a deeper, darker complex with some truly haunting touches. Points for physicality too. Great as well is Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Whitey, the moony yet skilled deputy sheriff. Merritt Wever would round out my three favs of the ensemble.

Just got done binge watching this and came away pretty impressed. They packed a lot of stuff into just 7 episodes but it all worked for me. Jack O'Connell continues to impress and Jeff Daniels made a great villain . The finale was also very satisfying & intense. Would recommend it .
8/10

I loved it. Very satisfying. Great world building in just 7 episodes.
O'Connell is great in everything he does. Really excited to see where he goes from here. He's one of the most promising young actors today.

Finally got around to this and loved it. Daniels was outstanding as a ruthless villain that wasn’t one-dimensional and O’Connell played the anti-hero perfectly. Anything with the two of them was great. The acting was pretty good all around sans the kid that played Michelle Dockery’s son. He was just plain awful. Great action in the finale with plenty of ruthlessness throughout.
