Do you prefer Marlon Brando in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' or Montgomery Clift in 'A Place in the Sun'?

Brando, though both are GOAT level.

I generally prefer Monty, but for their 1951 battle, Brando edges out Clift by a hair.

Think I prefer Brando slightly, but then I prefer Bogart to both of them.

This is the best match-up in Oscar history, but I would go with Montgomery Clift for A Place in the Sun, which is my favorite male performance of all time. The way he played the torture his character was going through was just always so brilliant to me.

Brando for me, I love Clift but Brando's performance for me is a dividing line for acting between what there was and what would come after him. It's the Never Mind The Bollocks of acting One of the interesting things about it is how playful it is too - the way he screeches like a cat in the beginning or goes throw her costume jewelry like a little kid etc. Whenever anybody is playing Stanley or trying to evoke Brando as Stanley they are usually focusing on the wrong stuff and missing parts of the characterization.

Brando by far. Him in Streetcar is his best performance and one of the best of all time. I just don't "get" Clift a lot of the time. He's only impressed me in some of his later performances when he was older like Misfits and his little part in Judgement at Nuremberg.

Brando here, but generally I find Clift more compelling and fascinating. Maybe because he was so choosy in his roles.
