Guillermo's one of those guys who announces ten projects but only one ends up being made. I love the man, his unmade In the Mountains of Madness ranks as one of my most anticipated "development hell" movies and I hope to whatever gods may be that it gets made, but when it comes to this, as with all GDT projects, I'll believe it when I see it.

Of course, but a Mann documentary that will probably only consist of interviews and clips seems pretty feasible compared to some of his more ambitious failed projects.

It's about time. After Pasolini, then DePalma, I knew another legend was missing. Ah right, it was Mann I was thinking of.

Still holding out hope that The Shape of Water's likely financial and awards success will help give del Toro some leeway to get In the Mountains of Madness made if he so desires. But then again, I also held out hope that Hellboy 3 would actually happen, so whatever.

You could probably get several good documentaries about him like you could get a whole doc out of the psychological aspect of Mann as a writer and that gets passed over a lot because of his style and technique as a director. I always think about 2 scenes in Thief - the Prosky lecture/beat down to Frank and Frank's telling Jessie to go and paying her off that in another movie would be blown over as simple tough guy BS but Mann takes great care to write it very specifically and what is said is very revealing about Frank and his character. It adds a whole lot and he did that over and over in what followed in his career - he's a very adept writer for guys who don't usually say much and it gives his films different dimensions and scope than other American crime films especially.

Love this idea. I would have also love to see a Michael Mann documentary made by Christopher Nolan (where they would discuss the comparisons between Heat and The Dark Knight)
