I didn't hate it, but I did come out of the theater thinking “That was a fine movie, but…” on so many levels. I wish I’d made a point to see it much earlier than I did, which unfortunately wasn’t until a week or so before the Oscars. There was so much hype and praise at that point, it’d really bloated and confused my expectations. Though I’ll probably get some hate for this, I was never too keen on seeing a third romantic pairing between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone to begin with. There’s a likable/cute vibe between them, always, but I’ve never felt a kind of epic romantic chemistry between the two, and I think I needed that for La La to meet those high expectations I had going in.
