I had the thought this morning that I wouldn't actually mind seeing Chris Pratt . . . as long as he was playing Tom Rogan. Imagine that swerve for the audience: that you see Beverly and then see her with Chris Pratt and think, "Aw, Bev and Ben got together after all!" . . . and then out comes the belt and you realize, "Fuck, this is Tom."

All I know is I want Chris Pratt to stay far away from this movie. I like him as an actor, but he would be so wrong for the role of Ben. He'd probably make a better Bill if he packed on the weight he used to have since that's how Bill turns out in the long run, but I'm sure Warner Bros won't try to make that part accurate. It's kind of funny that those kids actually gave a lot of good options for who they'd want to play them (except Chris Pratt and Christian Bale).
My picks:
Bill Denbrough: Charlie Cox (Back-up: Chris Pine; Hugh Dancy). Beverly Marsh: Deborah Ann Woll (Back-up: Karen Gillan; Bryce Dallas Howard). Ben Hanscom: Boyd Holbrook (Back-up: Jason Ritter; Ben Foster). Eddie Kaspbrak: Adam Scott/ Dan Fogler (Back-up: Scoot McNairy; Macon Blair). Richie Tozier: Jake Johnson (Back-up: Bill Hader; Jason Sudeikis). Mike Hanlon: Derek Luke (Back-up: Sterling K. Brown; Chadwick Boseman). Stan Uris: John Krasinski (Back-up: Max Greenfield).
I'm in the boat that agrees Jessica Chastain would be a much better fit for Audra, but considering she's a prominent actress, I fear she'll probably be cast as Bev instead. I mean, she'd do just fine in the role, but considering Chastain's often type-cast as the hard-ass woman, I can't imagine her as the victim of domestic abuse like Beverly Marsh.
I also totally didn't mean to cast Cox & Woll side-by-side, but they did have fantastic chemistry in Daredevil, so that will certainly help. I think Woll has been fantastic on the Marvel series and would be a perfect Bev. She's got the kick-ass attitude, but can also just as easily play the victim. Perfectly straddles that line. Cox, on the other hand, if they try to stay accurate, wouldn't be this stunning, movie hero star that we'd expect Bill to be. But I know the studio probably won't let their lead be a balding, slightly overweight man that looks older than he is. So they'll probably just slap some glasses on him and make him look scraggly. Boom, Charlie Cox, and he'd easily play a good leader-type character without drawing attention to himself (like a true movie star would).
I like Hader as Richie, but I think he'd be a bit out of place next to all the other actors. Johnson has great comedic chops and could certainly work the dramatic/ somewhat obnoxious angle a lot better. Plus he looks more like Finn Wolfhard than Hader, but both could pass.
I'm pretty much just uncertain about Ben. In the novel, the older him is supposed to have gotten very attractive, but there's also that same sort of shyness about him. And the darkness of everything that happened to them as kids probably took the (second) biggest toll on him. So he needs a very capable actor who also happens to be very handsome. Only judging Holbrook off of his role in Logan, he seems to be the best fit in my mind at the moment, but I know there's got to be someone better. Ritter would be a nice tribute to his late father, and he'd be damn good, though he's not a natural blonde (at least from what I can gather). And I don't know if they're just going to gloss over the hair color difference like they did in the original mini-series or try to stay accurate. We'll see.
Eddie is also unique because I'm not sure if they're hoping to make him overweight like he winds up being or if he'll still be the pencil-thin man. If the latter, Scott would be perfect. Maybe not what I envisioned in the novel, but as close as you can get to the film version we just witnessed. If the former, I think Stephen's casting of Blair is perfect, but I think Dan Fogler would more perfectly capture the neuroticism and sense of humor that the younger version had.
Reading up on how they're going to make Mike turn into a junkie for the sequel, I suppose you'd need someone who isn't as perfectly stoic as the one in the novel, so that immediately puts Sterling Brown (who would be my #1 choice) on the back-burner. Luke seems like he could straddle that line perfectly between world-worn and stoic (and it amazes me this dude has never been given all the baity roles since his days of Antwone Fisher and Catch a Fire, but that's a discussion for a different day).
Lastly is Stan, who shouldn't be given to a big actor since his role is limited, but he still needs to be played by someone who can play the straight man really well. It needs to be someone who appears very wholesome and happy, especially considering where his story goes. Krasinski seems perfect, especially since he can pass off as a look-alike to the younger Stan as well. The only thing is he isn't Jewish, so hence Greenfield as back-up.

I really fucking hate that they're gonna make Mike (the one black character) a junkie. I actually thought it'd be interesting if he became a cop, a la Mr. Nell, as a way of "patrolling" Derry and keeping watch. It would also make his knowledge of the recent murder spree make more sense than simply "having an inside man in the department."

The only ones that might make sense for is Bev or Bill. I already felt like they got Mike pretty wrong out of all the kids in the newest film, but now they're going to exacerbate it even more with the sequel. I like the idea of him being a cop, and it would be far more in line with how they set him up in this film as well. Tellin' you, man. You ought to be writing this shit for them How do you feel about the casting choices I made as well? I think yours are probably the most spot-on here, but I just figured I'd dig even deeper.

Man, I don't know if I'd want to be writing a sequel for it, because of how many things I would've liked to have seen in the first film that wouldn't jibe with what I'd want in the second. But having your one black character be a drug addict is a bad idea, not just because it's a lazy stereotyping but also because it robs Mike of his agency in staying in Derry voluntarily because he knows the evil still exists, and how does he combat it? Your cast is pretty solid (although I hate Karen Gillan and John Krasinski), but I wonder if Charlie Cox would be a better fit for Ben than Bill.

It just feels like lazy writing on their part and holds no weight to the character at all. Seems like they're just going for sympathy points so that whoever plays him can git dat Oscar. I'm hoping they re-think it, but I guess we'll see. I think Cox would be a perfect Ben actually, but I was trying to stay constant with the hair colors since he's a brunette and Ben is a blonde. I'm sure it wouldn't entirely matter, they can say he dyed his hair even or it went grey, who knows. I just hope they don't cast some stud as Bill when his character should be anything but.

I actually remember him being pretty good in What Maisie Knew (I know a lot of people hate that movie, but I loved it). So I suppose we'll see.
