THE WRESTLER IS MY FAVORITE DARREN ARONOFSKY FILM. EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES FROM MICKEY ROURKE, MARISA TOMEI, AND EVAN RACHEL WOOD.

Noah is the only one I like. There's a lot of good in The Fountain (primarily the conquistador stuff), but the rest of it really sags under the weight of its own pretension. Everything else he's made is crap (although Marisa Tomei rules in The Wrestler; that's far and away the best performance he's directed).
With that said, I'm intrigued by mother!, even if the trailers haven't really filled me with much confidence.

The Wrestler. Rourke and Tomei should have won that year.

Requiem for a Dream. Chaotic misery. Also Jennifer Connelly and Ellen Burstyn

The Wrestler by quite a bit.
Black Swan would be runner up, even if it is sort of overcooked (I get the feeling that mother! might also be that way).
Noah is a fascinating if not entirely successful film, Requiem for a Dream is effective for the type of film it is despite being rather heavy handed and exhausting, and I don't remember a whole lot about Pi except that I thought it was an interesting and strong debut.
The Fountain is the only one of his that I'd say I dislike altogether. Whenever I think what my idea of a pretentious film would be, that's one of the first that comes to mind (though I usually dislike using that word).

Damn I guess I was completely oblivious to how "divisive " Aronofsky was on here. I would have guessed he was universally loved on here. IMO he is a top notch director that is all about pushing the envelope . Noah (IMO) was his only miss fire . Just didn't care for it that much ( not a terrible film by any means cause the acting was on point in it. Just could have done without the rock monsters )
For my pick, I probably am leaning towards Requiem for a Dream. This is the film that put Darren on the map and did a masterful job at capturing a look at hardcore addiction .

need to see The Wrestler again, and I've soured considerably on the rest. I'll say Black Swan for now but I don't love it or anything The Fountain is one of my most-hated films. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a film so light on substance try so hard to be substantial.

The Wrestler.
Black Swan is embarrassingly awful.

I thought it was amazing when he did The Wrestler, and basically stripped away all of his Aronofskyness, and turned out by far and away the best movie he had ever made up till then. I think he was not a million miles away from it with Black Swan afterwards, which brought back all his madness, but nothing else is close to those two if you ask me. Not seen Mother yet, but I already saw Rosemary's Baby, so nvmd.

Very close between Requeim for a Dream and The Wrestler. Pi is also a storing contender IMO. Ultimately, I'm gonna go with the consensus: The Wrestler.

I've yet to see Pi, but so far he's a really strong director, but his films are hard to truly love. Black Swan, after a recent re-watch a week ago, is probably my favorite simply because of how simple the narrative is to show off his trademark skills as a director. Requiem is a fantastic film with fantastic performances, and some truly incredible editing/music, but it's far too harrowing (especially since I've been forced to sit through many a film class re-watching it each year) to really love after more than one watch. I know that's a lame criticism, but it's a reason it's not my favorite.
The Fountain deserves a re-watch, as I remember loving that one a lot, but until then (unless mother! blows me away) Black Swan gets my vote. I think Aronofsky works best with a simple story told really well rather than a convoluted one where the directing becomes a bit too frenetic.

The Fountain, I suppose. Not that big on any of them.

I've now seen mother!, and so can now say that Black Swan is the best I've seen from him.
That's with the apparently huge caveat that I haven't seen The Wrestler, though.

The Wrestler is my favorite of his, a rich and moving character study with one of the best performances of the 'aughts courtesy of Mickey Rourke.
Requiem for a Dream is a close second, and in many ways his most impressive, but it's such a (intentionally) miserable viewing experience I can't rank it as his best.
