quetee Way to miss the point! But let me clarify: They weren't courtiers, and Bess of Hardwick was not Asian.

Is that my imagination or did I just see a black dude on that video ?
The multiracial casting of the courtiers and Bess of Hardwick is ridiculous! Colorblind casting may work on stage (e.g., HAMILTON), but not on film. It's jarring. Well, it can work on film too sometimes. Remember Denzel Washington in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING? Such a genius casting and we all know that Don Pedro was far from being black. 😁

THR: That's awesome. If there's one thing I want in a 16th century historical drama about two queens vying for the throne it's... political timeliness. this is what I meant when I said this film "looked too modern"

This film is very feminist and has lots of queer content. Definitely could have been boring and the usual oscar bait so I'm glad it took some risks!

I'm still not sold on this movie, but it could surprise me.

quetee Way to miss the point! But let me clarify: They weren't courtiers, and Bess of Hardwick was not Asian. I wasn't talking about Hamilton. You were talking about how Adrian Lester sticks out and takes you out of the story. Ummm, well, like I said, black people did exist but I'm sure in limited capacity during that period. Hollywood just likes to ignore history and wants people to think that other minorities just fell out of the sky. Color blind casting is only bad if it shoves it down our throats and is unrealistic. Hollywood movies have been unrealistic demographic wise for decades. They use to film the tv show Code Black at my job. Asians were livid and talked about how unrealistic it was to not have any on the show. I came across a discussion and I told them it was because there was no way in hell that tv show represented what I saw on a daily.
