Yeah! I love him. I bet if was around when was making films with a younger De Niro, Scorsese would have wanted to use him in his films. Cannavale would have been awesome in Goodfellas.

Bobby Cannavale makes a specialty out of doing stuff with other people that I love, and doing it memorably.
I love Vincent D'Onofrio in Law & Order: Criminal Intent which feature a stupendous, and heartbreaking performance by a young Cannavale in one of my favorite episodes.
I find him electrifying in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, flat out great as Pacino's son in Danny Collins, thought he was a very strong Ricky Roma in Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway opposite Pacino's Shelley Levine, etc.
It's almost like he was preordained to be in The Irishman......

Loved him on BE - and of course it's a reunion on The Irishman with Cannavale, Huston, Graham all in the cast.

I always gave them praise when it was airing (and longed to see more of Graham's Capone). I didn't know they were part of the cast too! This film is actor heaven.

The Playlist is reporting that it is in "$140M range (and climbing)" from original budget of $125 million. At least after Blade Runner 2049, I'm convinced that de-aging can be done successfully, but still, a bunch of characters in a large proportion of the film?! Any chance this turns a profit?

It most likely will not make a profit but oh well (not my money bitch!) The cast looks great all around and I think it'll be a great film.

To at least try and make a profit, Netflix should just... release to theaters. I know it's crazy thinking for them, but they should try

Day 95 on The Irishman. 5 days over the original shooting schedule (90 days)......We're almost there!!!
As for the budget - I heard some months ago thru the art department - it's like $150m. So it's been for a while around there.

The reason why this film matters is that there has never been a great American film like this one on paper, that addressed Hoffa's role, the unions role in American history and in the fabric of broader American life and how that ascendancy and criminality intersected. There have been elements of it either in average films (FIST, Hoffa) or pretty good ones (The Funeral) or better than good (parts of Once Upon A Time In America). That's the reason why people who think this is just another mob film or Scorsese treading water are off base. It's the closest he's come to the scope and panoramic vision of a Godfather of his own. I haven't read the script or the book but I would think it's worth getting excited about without the cast..........but, um, then there's the cast

Should have expected that...
But who knows... anything is possible I guess.
It's nice to hear her say that it will "definitely" get a theatrical release at least.
