There are several hundred Criterion releases and they can be pricey, so most of us can't afford them all. Which Criterion releases do you consider must buy? Here are my list of the 15 most essential/must own Criterion releases: (in alphabetical order)
8 1/2
Bicycle Thieves
Breathless
City Lights
The Graduate
House
La Dolce Vita
M
Nashville
Persona
Picnic at Hanging Rock
The Red Shoes
Salo
Sansho the Bailiff
Seven Samurai

The recent transfer of The New World is one of their most beautiful releases I would say. Gives Malick's masterpiece the proper treatment it deserves.

I have The New World on Criterion blu-ray but haven't watched it yet. I saw the original theatrical edition years ago but I want to check out the other cuts and the special features on it soon.

Apparently they spent most of their efforts on the extended cut, which is apparently Malick's preferred edition. I haven't watched the two shorter releases on it yet, have seen them multiple times over the years, but the longest one looks absolutely gorgeous. I think it's the best of the three so I'm happy it's where they concentrated.

Because I own the 2009 version bluray I was curious to see screenshot of the difference, I ended up on: bluray.highdefdigest.com/32923/thenewworldcriterion.htmlAnd they definetly agree with you, saying that: The remastered Extended Cut looks simply fantastic. Better than every other home entertainment release. Probably better, in some ways, than what was shown in theatres.
