Entertaining show, Lange and Sarandon do very impressive work. That being said, Lange gives a great performance, but I really didn't get that she was playing Joan Crawford - Crawford had a steely, hard edge, including a strong, straightforward tone in her speaking voice, that I didn't get from Lange's softer vibe ; Sarandon resembled Bette Davis more, right down to her hairstyles as 1970's Bette, though a bit of voice coaching might have helped her give her voice more of that famous Davis inflection - both deserve Emmy nods regardless, Lange may have more of a shot of winning, her work in the last episode was marvelous - though, ironically, I never strongly felt she was strongly channeling the Joan Crawford we all know
Faye Dunaway, on the other hand, sort of disappeared into the persona of Joan Crawford in "Mommie Dearest", camp fest that it overall is

Just saw the last episode. Both Lange and Sarandon were tremendous.
I wasn't expecting to see Joan being portrayed more like a tragic figure close to the end - from a movie star with lots of fans and respect from studios and her peers to someone who ended up taking parts in B movies and living completely alone, heating her food in a microwave and telling others about her beauty secrets (relying on how she looked at the top of her career) to put food on her table. What Mamacita said about Joan's friends coming to her funeral but not being there for her when she was alive is especially poignant and ironic at the same time. I belive Joan herself said something similar about Marilyn Monroe when she died in 1962.
Sarandon's resemblance with Davis was more striking than ever in this episode. It was a great effort, I have to admit, but I'm still waiting for that Bette Davis biopic - a whole film about her. She would deserve that. And so would we, fans.
I really did love every minute of this show. Being nostalgic about Hollywood's golden age, it was really a treat to see all these actresses, actors, directors and so on being portrayed by modern performers. I'll wait for the DVD release to buy it. And I'm confident that the Emmys won't ignore it either.

Finished final episode, last night, wow that was sad. I can't decide which one will win best actress. I'm leaning towards Susan.

both deserve Emmy nods regardless, Lange may have more of a shot of winning, her work in the last episode was marvelous - though, ironically, I never strongly felt she was strongly channeling the Joan Crawford we all know Faye Dunaway, on the other hand, sort of disappeared into the persona of Joan Crawford in "Mommie Dearest", camp fest that it overall is As I said earlier, technically, it's a great performance, but it's just a rehash of her AHS roles. Her Joan resembles more, say, Elsa Mars than Joan Crawford. I think she's getting praised up the wahoo, because 1) the critics are not familiar with Joan Crawford and/or have not seen any of her films, and 2) she is generally a good actress, and on Feud she tugged at your heartstrings and made you root for her. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with Joan. I'm not really a fan of the movie Mommie Dearest, but Faye really captured Joan's essence, not to mention she physically resembled the woman. She gave us two facets - the familiar public Joan, and the strange private Joan (by many accounts, Joan was two-faced and put on airs). on Feud, Lange's Joan was the same, publicly and privately.

The news broke in August. I'm just now hearing of it, though. I didn't love 'Bette and Joan' (apart from Judy Davis and Alfred Molina), but this was really intriguing. Were you planning on watching? Who would you have cast?

Good. Ryan Murphy's exploitative sensationalism definitely has its limits, and he crossed them a long time ago.

stephen - Do you feel similarly about 'The Crown'? No. I've not seen Season 2 of The Crown yet (and not sure if I'll ever get around to it, despite enjoying Season 1), but the difference in approach between Murphy and Morgan is gulf-sized. Morgan might go for fictionalization and oversimplification to tell his story, but it never seems like he wants to revel in the juicy gossip like some sort of Perez Hilton wanna-be like Murphy does, and Murphy's superficiality-disguised-as-skill always leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it's clear he has so many ideas that could pay off but lacks the discipline and restraint to make them work to their best potential.

Good riddance. Probably can't handle any more lawsuits! A California Appeals Court just threw out Olivia de Havilland's lawsuit... It was kind of funny, really. Apparently now she wants to take it to the Supreme Court?

I watched two episodes of the first season while I was stuck in the hospital way back when... and despite my blood loss, all I was thinking while watching was, "this is the television equivalent to reading under the desks of a junior high school".

Oh honey, but I was so looking forward to Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson playing Charles & Diana... and Kathy Bates as Queen Elizabeth.

Good decision. There's already enough useless jabbering about those royals (just get rid of them already) in every medium possible.
And watching another portrayal of "saintly" Lady Di... yawning..

Good. Chuck & Di wasn't a feud; it was a bad marriage.

Demi Moore and Molly Ringwald join.
Lotta stars from the '80s class... Who else should join? How about some deeper cuts... Daphne Zuniga? Traci Lords?

Interesting choice for Truman. Hollander is definitely not tall (1.65 m against Capote's 1.60 m), but he's more good-looking. Not a huge fan of him as an actor, but let's wait and see. Murphy is known for bringing out the best in his actors and sometimes pulling career-best performances from them.
The female cast is meh, apart from Watts and Lange. Curious to see what they'll do.

This is an incredible ensemble, but man, I dread watching it because Ryan Murphy only knows to squander every golden opportunity possible.

This is an incredible ensemble, but man, I dread watching it because Ryan Murphy only knows to squander every golden opportunity possible. It's also very niche.Everyone knows who Capote is,but not many people will know who The Swans are,or care, even though it's a fascinating story.
